From the classroom to the world of auditing!
This summer, Josh Bourdoulous ’27, an Accounting major at the Ithaca College School of Business, put his skills into practice as an Audit Intern at PKF O’Connor Davies LLP.
During his internship, Josh gained hands-on experience with audit procedures, financial statement reviews, account testing, and client documentation, while working with a variety of financial accounts.
Josh landed the opportunity through LinkedIn after reaching out directly to a partner. The connection started with a coffee chat and ultimately led to his internship. He also gained valuable insights into the CPA path and professional communication.
Reflecting on his experience, Josh shared:
“My favorite part of the internship was when I was first entrusted to work in an official audit binder. I was responsible for auditing fixed assets, investments, and cash, and I was able to sign off as the preparer for the first time. It was a great feeling to see that the work I was doing was trusted and contributing to the overall audit.”
Some advice from Josh:
“My biggest advice would be to apply as early as you can, as the accounting field can be very competitive. I would also encourage students not to be afraid to ask questions throughout their internship. Everyone I worked with was willing to help, and asking questions was one of the best ways I learned throughout the experience.”
