From Stonewall to ACT UP, from marriage equality to trans rights today—the LGBTQ+ community has always had to fight for its place in the world. Time and again, when institutions failed to protect us, we raised our voices, stood together, and demanded change.
Now, in the face of yet another attempt to silence and sideline our community, that legacy of courage continues.
When the National Institutes of Health abruptly canceled several peer-reviewed LGBTQ+ health studies—research focused on su***de prevention, pregnancy health, and the impact of structural stigma—Dr. Brittany Charlton, a leader at Harvard’s new LGBTQ Health Center of Excellence, took action. With the support of the ACLU, she filed a federal lawsuit against the NIH, alleging that the cancellations were politically motivated and part of a broader effort to erase LGBTQ+ research from the public health agenda.
Join us for a powerful and timely fireside chat about what it means to resist—not just in the streets, but in the halls of academia and public health. This conversation between Dr. Bill Bean and Dr. Brittany Charlton isn’t just about one lawsuit: it’s about honoring the generations who came before us, protecting the progress we’ve made, and forging a future where LGBTQ+ health is not up for debate.
