Since 1992, Kiersten has been directly involved in admissions and school counseling in a variety of primary, secondary and college settings on both coasts of the United States. After several years of working in Admissions and Financial Aid, Kiersten transitioned to the role of an independent college counselor, and has been practicing for over 21 years. Kiersten is praised for her personalized approach to the college search and application process. She takes on a small number of clients each year to ensure a highly personalized and positive experience for the student and their family. It all starts with developing a relationship, so that she is able to identify student’s strengths, goals and wishes. This is accomplished by a thorough assessment of the student’s academic and extracurricular profile, as well as their learning style. Students are counseled on how to maximize their high school experience, while best preparing for their future college choices. Recommendations for honing passions and pursuits are encouraged. The college list is at the heart of the process; she uses her years of tracking trends and information gleaned from personally assessing colleges across the nation to make personalized recommendations to her students. Students also learn how to evaluate college recommendations, how to bring out their unique voice in their essay writing, and preparing for college interviews. Throughout the process, she serves as a guide to her students and families, to ensure that all questions are answered and to help unveil the curtain of mystery that surrounds college admission. While based in the Puget Sound region, she has worked with students from across North America, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia and enjoys the diversity that each student brings to the process. In an effort to stay on top of trends, she attends national conferences on college admissions each year and spends a significant amount of time visiting college campuses across the nation to best facilitate matches between her students and potential campuses. She also hosts college admission counselors in her office in Issaquah to develop personal relationships. As a recognized expert on college admission counseling, she has been frequently quoted in the press, and has also made appearances on public radio, television and XM satellite radio. Kiersten is an instructor for the University of California at Irvine’s Educational Consultant Certificate program. She has been a professional member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) for over 15 years and is a member of the National Association of College Admission Counseling (NACAC). She upholds all standards set forth by NACAC’s Statement of Good Practices as well as IECA’s Principals of Good Practice.
