Big tournament weekend at All About Chess!!

- Friday Night Quads (7pm - 10) is our weekly tournament where kids are put into quads (four kids around the same skill level) and play rated games against each other. A shorter, more casual event.

- The Saturday Introductory Tournament (4:30pm - 8) is our monthly tournament for kids new to tournaments (must be under 700 rated to participate). Players play 4 rated games, and coaches teach a brief group lesson before each round covering simple techniques all tournament players should know.

- The Jing Mei Tournament (8:30am - 3:30pm) is the big one. Held at Jing Mei Elementary, kids are placed into sections based on rating/grade and play 5 rounds. We'll order pizza for lunch, and will try our best to be done before the Super Bowl!

I figure it deserved a second post. We are National Champions!!! Somerset 2nd graders are top in the nation!
We had 4 grades place in the team portion at Nationals! Congrats to Evergreen Middle School 6th graders getting 5th place, Somerset 3rd graders got 8th place and Somerset 4th graders got 3rd place and finally Somerset 2nd graders got 1st place. What a performance. Congratulations everyone.

Super proud of all our students who played at Nationals this year is Spokane. It was a great event.

In addition, before each game, one of our coaches will go over basic strategies all chess players should know. Good tournament habits such as patience and sportsmanship will be strongly encouraged throughout as well.

The National K-12 Championships are in Washington this year for the first time in over a decade! To help players prepare, we'll be hosting weekly prep sessions at our center in Issaquah Saturdays and Sundays starting Oct 26. Participants will play a game with the same rules and regulations they’ll find at Nationals (G90 time control, required notation, etc), then have their game reviewed by one of our coaches. We’ll help them learn from their mistakes, understand new strategies, and get a leg up on the competition. This is a HUGE opportunity for local players - we're here to help them make the most of it. We're excited to be hosting our first Magic the Gathering draft this Sunday, Oct 5th!

Participants will each receive three booster packs which they'll use to make their decks. They will then be assigned to a quad (a group of four players), and compete using the decks they made. Players will keep the cards they open, and quad winners will earn an extra pack.

This weekend's event will feature the new Spiderman set - so register now at theallaboutschool.org while you still can!
