Mindfulness is a cutting-edge technique being implemented in schools across America today. Some teachers may be tired of hearing a new set of buzzwords each year that they may feel administers are blindly adopting and enforcing, and who can blame them? But mindfulness is not just a buzzword it is a tool that is effectively teaching kids to manage their own ability to focus and pay attention. Mindfulness is based in science and pertains to a physiological process that takes place in the body when one learns to bring attention inward, on the present moment and on to the breath. These three elements of mindfulness are what help us to live more fully in the present moment and to focus on the experiences in our lives and to those people who we are experience life with on a day to day basis. It is a shift of awareness from the intelligent and wise mind to the life giving, nutrient filled breath. It is easy to become motivated to pay attention to breath, self and the present moment because of the amazing results received when one chooses to adopt this simple yet profound practice. The results are positive.
Practitioners experience an increase in attention, focus, and clarity of thought and a decrease in stress and overwhelm. The practice of mindfulness strengthens, revitalizes and restores brain function and promotes overall optimal health.
With mindfulness, everybody wins! Breath is free (except when Mr. O Hare is selling it in Thneedsville!) The only thing you need to be successful in living a more mindful life is a willingness to shift your awareness from your mind to your breath and willingness to bring attention to your breath with purpose. What you will find next might just amaze you.
