After school help needed starting September. Holtsville location. Monday and Friday 2:45pm-6:15pm.

A caring, patient person is needed to provide community support services for a 13 year old boy with autism/ADHD. Assist my son with independent living skills (grooming, meal preparation, picking out clothes, chores) and community outings (boy scouts, Splish Splash/Adventureland, family outings, various events). My son is a good natured, energetic, fun loving boy who needs to be engaged to participate in socialization. His conversational language is emerging. He loves computer games, electronics, playgrounds, swimming and reading books. He needs guidance to maintain focus and may need to be reminded to complete routines. He sometimes protests to avoid a requested task. We have strategies to minimize this behavior. We readily reinforce good behavior and firmly but gently discourage undesirable behavior. 10 year old sister will be present as well. Pay via an agency. Clean driving record, fingerprinting and background checks are mandatory. Please send resume/work/education via email [email protected].

Using Reinforcement For Better Results

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EST

There are different forms of reinforcement that are used to help reduce and increase maladaptive and positive behaviors respectively. First, we must understand the definition of what reinforcement is. Several descriptions and examples will be provided of the two different classes of reinforcement and how they work in a real-world scenario. To gauge the value of an item's reinforcement, professionals will conduct different methods, such as trial and error or an interview to see what a particular person wants. Once an effective reinforcer is chosen, professionals can begin to work on using primary and secondary forms of reinforcement to help promote positive behaviors.

Preparing for Outside Activities & Special Events with Individuals on the Autism Spectrum

5:00 pm - 7:00 pm EST

Many families find it extremely challenging to take their son or daughter with ASD into the community. For some, this may only be for challenging events, such as going to the doctor or dentist; but for others, it may affect all community outings, such as going to dinner or shopping for groceries. This workshop will provide parents and caregivers with strategies to address these challenges across every day outings to doctors' visits and even planning vacations.
