Dear Island City Elementary Families,

Welcome to a new school year at Island City Elementary! We are excited to welcome our students and families back for another year of learning, growth, friendships, and fun. Our staff has been working hard to prepare for a successful start, and we cannot wait to see our Rams back in the building!

Important Back-to-School Dates

Thursday, August 27 – Class Assignments; Families will receive a text message with their child’s classroom/teacher assignment

Friday, August 28 – Open House & Meet the Teacher, 4:00–5:00 p.m. We invite all families to come to school, meet your child’s teacher, see the classroom, explore the building, and get comfortable with the school before the first day. This is also a great opportunity to bring your child’s school supplies with you. Bringing supplies to Open House helps us avoid the confusion and extra traffic of trying to organize supplies on the first morning of school.

Please take a close look at the attached school supply list, as there have been some changes to the way we are approaching school supplies this year. We appreciate your help in following the updated list and providing the items requested. This will help us make sure students have what they need while keeping the first day focused on learning and getting settled.

Our Focus for the Year

As we begin the 2026–2027 school year, we will continue to focus on three important areas:

Regular Attendance – Every day matters! Students who are at school consistently have more opportunities to learn, build relationships, and experience success. We want every Island City student here, ready to learn, every day they can be.

Emotional Regulation & Behavioral Expectations – We will continue teaching students how to manage their emotions, solve problems, make good choices, and treat others with respect. We believe behavior is something students can learn, practice, and improve.

High Academic Expectations – We believe every student can grow and achieve at high levels. Our teachers will provide strong instruction, meaningful support, and appropriate challenges while
encouraging students to take ownership of their learning.

Join Our PTO - We also want to invite you to become part of our Island City Elementary PTO. Our PTO is an important part of our school community and provides opportunities for families to support students, teachers, and school activities. Our first PTO meeting will be Tuesday, September 8, at 6:00pm in the school library. Whether you have lots of time to volunteer or can only occasionally help, we would love to have you involved. Your voice, ideas, and support make our school stronger!

Thank you for trusting us with your children. We are looking forward to an outstanding year filled with learning, growth, and opportunities for every student to succeed. We hope to see you at Open House on August 28 and then for the first day of school on August 31st.

🌎✈️ Where in the World is Our Island City Ram? (Part 7)🐏

Our Ram took another airplane ride and flew across the ocean to somewhere tropical! 🌴🌺

He spent time relaxing on beautiful beaches, enjoyed some delicious food, and even traveled high into the mountains where he got to see a VOLCANO! 🌋 How amazing is that?!

There are SO many wonderful places to explore around the world, and everywhere our Ram goes, he learns something new! From dinosaurs and butterflies to volcanoes and mountains, adventure can be one of the best ways to learn. 🦖🦋🌋

🌎Where in the World is our Island City Ram? (Part 6) 🐏

This summer, our Ram traveled to Utah for some amazing adventures! He explored the Natural History Museum and visited a beautiful butterfly biosphere. 🦋

His favorite part? Learning all about the incredible animals - especially the dinosaurs! 🦖 There are so many fun places to explore that make learning exciting, even during summer break.

We hope our Rams have been discovering new places, trying new things, and making wonderful memories all summer long! ☀️ We can’t wait to hear about your adventures when we see you back at school in a few weeks!!

🌎 Where in the World is Our Island City Ram? 🐏 (Part 5)

While our Ram has had an amazing time traveling and exploring new places throughout the summer, he also enjoyed a bit of a fun “STAYcation” as well. 😎

From visiting with friends and neighbors to spending time with some of the wonderful people who make our community so special, our Ram loved celebrating all the great things that make Island City feel like home.

A special thank you to Les Schwab and Starbucks for supporting Island City School and welcoming our Ram for a visit. We truly appreciate businesses and community members who invest in our students and our school. If you have a business and want to have our Ram come for a visit, comment below! We’d love to highlight you!

🌎 Where in the World is our Island City Ram? (Part 4) 🌎

Our Ram recently crossed the border to visit friends to the north in Canada! 🇨🇦

While he was there, he enjoyed learning about new cultures, taking in some breathtaking scenery, and even finding time to keep up with his summer reading! 📚 ⛰️

That got us wondering…. Have you been reading during summer break? We’d love to hear what books you’ve been enjoying!

Our Ram has been having an amazing time exploring, but he’s also been missing all of our Island City students. ♥️ He can’t wait to hear about your summer adventures when school starts again!

🌎 Where In the World is Our Island City Ram? 🐏 (Part 3)

Hello Ram families! Our Ram is certainly keeping busy this summer and it looks like he took a ride on an airplane! ✈️ Have YOU ever been on an airplane?

This airplane took our Ram to the mountains of Colorado! ⛰️ He saw tall buildings, beautiful scenery, some very cool sports complexes, and even another Ram high up on the mountain! (Perhaps they are cousins) 😉 Can you look on a map and find Colorado?? Here is a hint: It’s near the middle of our country. Even though it is summer break, we can always find opportunities to learn about something new!

🐏 Where In the World is our Island City Ram? (Part 2) 🙌

Hi everyone!! Our Ram is still enjoying his summer break and has been spending time with many of his friends, near and far! He might have even used his passport!! He is sure a popular Ram and apparently he has a sweet tooth, too! 🍦
