World Language Friends

World Language Friends Westchester’s in-school foreign language programs for toddlers and pre-schoolers. WLF's philosophy is that learning a second language should be enjoyable.

World Language Friends (WLF) is an in-school language program, offering French and Spanish classes to toddlers and pre-schoolers directly at their day care centers, nursery schools and pre-schools. Our playbased classes are filled with cultural explorations, music, art, dance, sports, and imaginary play. If you are a parent or a school that would like to learn more about our programs, please feel free to reach out to us.

We are thankful for all the lovely students who enrolled in our language classes in the past three years. We hope you enjoyed the learning experiences and cultural explorations. This is also to say farewell as I am embarking on new endeavors with my main focus being on sustainability and environmental protection. We need to take care of the Earth as much as possible right now and give it back what it needs.

DÍA DE LOS MU***OS - November 2nd - is an important holiday in Mexican culture.

Families in Mexico gather to remember and celebrate their deceased family members by showing their love and respect for the nice times they had spent together, for their love, support, and important life lessons that they had helped them learn. People visit cemeteries and create special altars that are filled with “ofrendas” (gifts/offerings), which consist of photos of the deceased loved ones, flowers (marigolds), candles, their favorite food, drinks and sugar skulls.

People in Mexico believe that on these special days, families feel close to their lost loved ones because they come visit them and celebrate with them. The holiday celebrates the lives of the deceased in a positive way. Although families can no longer be physically with the ones who have passed away, they believe they are still together in their hearts, and reconnect with them on Day of the Dead.

Despite some scary looking symbols, this holiday is not spooky at all! People hold parades, parties, family dinners, sing and dance, and bring gifts to lost loved ones. Skulls are decorated with flowers and vivid colors.

We made sure that our explanation did not make our students sad or scared. It was all about love and care.

The kids get excited about our fall classes because they get to learn in Spanish and French about their favorite activities -- picking apples, pears, pumpkins and playing in piles of leaves. They play games and dance to Latin rhythms.

Please contact us if you would like children in your daycare or pre-school to experience fall "en espagñol" or "en français".

A growing number of parents in Westchester want their children to have an early start with foreign language. They are enrolling their children in foreign language classes as early as two or three years old. Young children are especially wired to learn language in the most natural ways, through play and exploration. If you are a forward-thinking daycare, please do not hesitate to contact us about our language classes.
