University of Dallas student athlete finds faith through Rome study abroad program 05/04/2026

During the Rome Program, student athlete Walker Alsobrooks '27 felt drawn to the beauty of the Catholic Church — not just in the sights and experiences of Rome, but also in the joy of the seminarians he met.

This Easter, Alsobrooks was initiated into the Church.

"I've been looking forward to this day for a long time, and it's been a long time coming … I do not deserve that love, but he gave it to me," he said. "I feel so blessed."

Most know John Adams. Few know the woman behind him.

University of Dallas history professor Dr. Susan Hanssen was personally invited by the White House's Salute to America 250 Task Force to share the story of Abigail Adams in "The Story of America," a video series produced by Hillsdale College in partnership with the White House's Salute to America250 Task Force to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

In this episode, Dr. Hanssen shares the story of Abigail Adams, one of the most influential yet often overlooked figures of the American Founding. Through her expertise, we learn about Abigail's faith, her grief, her steadfast support of John Adams and how her counsel helped shape the founding of our nation.

Dr. Hanssen's passion for this topic runs deep. She regularly teaches John and Abigail Adams' letters in her course "Women in American History" at UDallas and has published extensively on the subject. Read her work below:
