To all my students, unless I've expressed to you otherwise, I will only be holding class sessions 4 more weeks. So, that will be Roughly by the end of December. I will leave it up to you all to reach out and book your sessions within this time.
By the end of that time I just ask that you will leave a review for our time together and session as we discussed at the beginning. I May open up a new window for sessions in the future, and if so, you all will be the first to know.

I'd like to shine light on one of my students (family) Chijon. This guy is making huge strides in his studies very quickly! I liken you to my prodigy!
This picture for those who don't know is a picture of isshiki form the Naruto/Boruto series. Initially Chijon says "that's my favorite character, but he looks to hard to draw" (something along those lines) lol.
So we went over a few techniques previously discussed (drawing from your eye first. Making things simple, using line, shape, and then form to produce your art)
Through this process I watched his belief in what he can do expand and his technique too. I know that he was very proud of this work, and I am too!! I had to share this! Great work young grasshopper!!
Thanks for reading! Keep Creating!!!

The cornerstone to being able to draw anything is first seeing line, and then shape, and then form.
Most anything you see has a shape that it is mostly composed of. The most primitive shapes are squares, circles, and triangles. The most common forms are spheres, cubes (boxes), and believe it or not Cylinders. With understanding these shapes, you become equipped with the foundation to create any shape!
If you would just spend a few minutes practicing these shapes in different views and angles, it will increase ALL of your work 10 fold guaranteed. Its one of those practices that seep into your subconcious.
Practice these shapes, as often as you can, and when you're done, just go back to drawing how you normally would. Eventually, you will start to notice, "seemingly by itself", your work will drastically improve no matter the style or approach you draw in.

Contrast is very important to composition. In this example, I took some artwork from my brother. I really love his Design work on this character, however he was saying he didn't too much care for the color choices.
I looked at it, and I could see what may have been the dilema. The character was well drawn and there is a very good silhouette. So, what is the problem.
Well, I put a layer of black over this character with a layer blending mode set to "hue". Though subtle, what you will see, is that alot of the VALUES are close. This creates a tension, or lack of flow the eye. It is a more advanced technique, and is something that is felt more than it is seen to the untrained eye, but when utilized correctly, the results can be astronomical.
Here I just adjusted a few of the values/colors to create more VARIETY in the value spectrum, which enhances the overall composition just in color. It makes it just a little easier to Digest. Though subtle and more advanced it is powerful. Can you see what I mean?

Sketching is the process of taking a vision or thought (idea) and BIRTHING (manifesting) it into the physical world.
As an artist, we are tasked with the first part of physical manifestation. Making it visible. Your ability to do that is closely related to your sketch.
Sketching is not a committed art. It is composed of gestures, stroke lines, conceptual thoughts, broken shapes, unfinished lines, but out of it nearly EVERYTHING YOU SEE AND EVEN WATCH IS MADE.
Don't forsake sketching!

Eat your veggies! We all love our snacks and our favorites, but to have that healthy functional diet we have to incorporate the "veggies" - and fruits.
I'm saying that to say, there are elements in art like that. Instead of your "veggies" I'd say practice your forms. Your shapes.
Practice your cylinders, your cubes, and your spheres. Practice drawing them from different angles, different characteristics (long, short, thick, skinny, etc). Practice placing them in perspective. All these things are your "veggies" when it comes to art.
The more you can bring these into your drawing and Practice, the more your art is improved in a wholesome way! It may not always be fun, but it is definitely worth it.

There is an old sayiing that less is more. Or the acronym (KISS) which is short for, KEEP, IT SIMPLE, STUPID. No, I'm not calling you stupid lol, but this is a VERY valuable key.
Make things simple. If it's not simple, MAKE IT SIMPLE. This is the key to being able to Draw ANYTHING YOU SEE.
You acheive this by breaking things down into forms, or more simple than that--(SHAPE), or even simpler (LINE).
For example, If I asked you to draw this bobcat's head, then it may be too difficult to draw depending on your level.
Now if I asked you to draw the forms, you see in the bobcat's head, it may be a LITTLE easier, but still complex depending on your level.
but what if I said Draw the SHAPES you see in the bobcat's head. A little easier huh? Not easy enough?
What if I asked you to just draw the lines. Most anybody can draw lines. and Lines, are much simpler to understand than shape or form.
Learn to simplify in order to understand and execute. Happy Thursday

Composition
When you look at an image, and it just works. It seems to guide your eye (you know exactly what to look for or at). There is a sense of balance or just plainly "this looks good", or "this works".
Well most times, the reason that is, even if the artist didnt INTEND for it to be, is that the work has good "composition". Composition put simply, is just the way you place and arrange the components, or elements of your peice. That doesn't just mean the actual objects you draw, it can also be colors, or shadows, or sizes of things etc.
Composition can be the difference between A GREAT IDEA GONE WRONG, or a NOT SO GOOD idea GONE GREAT. When you grasp this tool as an artist or creative, it is invaluable. It gives such control and precision in the outcome of you work!
