Update: 6:30 p.m. on 9/2 - Smoke from the Gibby Fire in San Juan Capistrano may be visible in the Irvine area. According to OCFA, forward progress on the fire has been stopped. There is no danger to Irvine.

IUSD and our schools will continue to monitor the situation. If anything changes with regard to air quality, we will keep our community informed and modify outdoor activities as appropriate.

🎉 We were excited to join the Irvine Unified Council PTA for their first meeting of the new school year! We’re looking forward to another year of partnership and connection with these incredible Iucpta Irvine Council leaders. ❤️🤩

IUSD Board Members Dr. Jeff Kim and Cyril Yu joined Superintendent Cassie Parham, Assistant Superintendent Information Technology Brie Ford and Assistant Superintendent of Education Services Stan Machesky to share updates on important districtwide work, including:

🌟 There’s no place like gnome for our littlest learners at the Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC)! 🍄❤️

From flower boxes and gnomes to colorful murals, these details help our youngest learning feel a sense of belonging and excitement for learning. 🌸🙌

🥳✨Carla, ECLC’s amazing custodian, helps bring a little extra excitement to the campus each day. Carla maintains the flower boxes and places gnomes in the trees, as she knows they are details that help connect our students and families. 💫😎 The beloved gnomes have even made their way into the school’s mural!

💡As Superintendent Parham shared in her Welcome Back to School message: “Success in school means finding joy in learning, making connections between school and life, building relationships, and realizing how powerful their choices can be.”

For our preschoolers, starting school can be a big transition. At ECLC, it takes an entire school community to help every child feel welcomed, supported and at home. ❤️

Did you know that the Orange County Transportation Authority offers the “Youth Ride Free” bus program? This program lets kids ages 6-18 ride OC buses for free every day for two years with a Wave card. 🎉🚍

Students must have a Wave card to ride the bus. Parents must apply or reapply for their student to participate in this program. 🚌✅ Last year’s Youth Ride Free Passes will expire on September 30, 2026.

📣The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Orange County, including Irvine, from Tuesday, August 25 through Friday, August 28.

IUSD schools’ outdoor activities will be modified accordingly. ☀️🌡️This may include, but is not limited to:
✅Indoor PE or recess
✅Less strenuous outdoor activities
✅Encouraging students to stay in the shade and to stay hydrated
✅Modifications for high school athletics. 👀 Look for messages from your student’s coaches.

Please remind your student to drink water throughout the day and to wear light, loose-fitting clothing and hats outside. 😎💧

All IUSD schools have air conditioning to ensure a comfortable learning environment. Student safety remains our top priority!

📢Mark your calendars for the annual Ask A Scientist/Engineer Night! Students in 6th through 12th grade are invited to attend. 🧫

📅Date & Time: September 16, 5:30-7 p.m.
📍Location: IUSD Learning Center (3387 Barranca Pkwy)

👉Do you work in STEM?
We’re also looking for STEM professional volunteers as well for the event! 🧬✅During this event, you’ll have the chance to sit down one-on-one with students for 10-15 minute consultations, offering your expertise and advice on their science fair ideas.

We look forward to seeing our junior scientists and volunteers!
