Right after class ends, spend 5 minutes doing this: close your notes and write down everything you can remember from the lesson without looking.

This is called a brain dump, and it is one of the most effective ways to lock in what you just learned. It forces your brain to retrieve the information while it is still fresh, which is exactly when memory gets reinforced.

Do it consistently and you will start walking into exams feeling a whole lot more prepared.

If your study routine is mostly re-reading notes, you might be working hard without getting far.

Research from Karpicke and Roediger (2008) published in Science found that students who used active recall, meaning they tested themselves on the material, retained significantly more than those who simply re-read.
