🔬🍎 Where Does Our Food Go? Let’s Follow the Journey!

This week in Science, our young scientists explored what happens after we take a bite! They learned that food travels from the mouth → esophagus → stomach, beginning an amazing journey through our digestive system. 🫀🧠

Through hands-on exploration and real-life demonstrations, children are building an early understanding of anatomy, digestion, and how our bodies work. Learning science is even more exciting when we can see, touch, ask questions, and discover! 🧪✨

🧠🔬 SCIENCE IS BETTER WHEN YOU CAN SEE IT, TOUCH IT & DISCOVER IT!

Today, we kicked off our Science class with Mr. Ruben as our young scientists explored the incredible human body! 🫀🫁

Our students learned about body systems, organs, and the journey food takes through our bodies—from the moment we take a bite to how our digestive system processes and absorbs nutrients.

What made today’s lesson truly memorable? Real, hands-on exploration! Mr. Ruben brought in actual animal organs so our students could observe their size, shape, texture, and structure while making connections between what they see and what they are learning.

At Marco Polo School, we believe children learn best when academics come to life. Through hands-on science, observation, questioning, and discovery, our students are building early scientific thinking skills while developing a deeper understanding of the world around them. 🌎🔬

What a joyful morning at our Twinkle & Play Parent-and-Me class! ✨
The children explored a variety of provocations, including sensory painting, followed by a special circle time together. We sang, played, and shared smiles in both English and Mandarin—it was such a wonderful experience for everyone.
We’re so excited for the months ahead! Keep look out for details about our next gathering in October. 🎃

Building Literacy in Two Languages 📚✨

At Marco Polo School, literacy begins long before children enter primary school. Through intentional, hands-on experiences, our children are developing foundational reading and writing skills in both English and Mandarin.

From matching games and letter recognition to practicing uppercase and lowercase letters and exploring Mandarin characters, each activity strengthens early literacy, visual recognition, vocabulary, and fine-motor development.

Learning across two languages gives children opportunities to build connections between sounds, symbols, words, and meaning—while developing the flexibility and confidence to communicate in multiple languages.

Every match, every character, every letter is a small step toward becoming a confident, capable reader and writer—and preparing our children for their next academic chapter. 🌱📖

☀️ When the temperatures rise, we simply bring the adventure indoors.

This week’s extreme heat called for a thoughtful shift in our routine — prioritizing the safety and comfort of our children while continuing to create meaningful opportunities to move, explore, and play.

Inside our thoughtfully designed spaces, our teachers transformed the day with yoga, indoor soccer, creative movement games, and engaging experiences that supported physical development in the most joyful ways. 🤍

☀️ 当气温升高，我们便将探索的旅程延伸到室内。

本周持续的高温天气，让我们对日常活动安排做出了更加周到的调整——将孩子们的安全与舒适放在首位，同时继续为他们创造运动、探索与游戏的丰富机会。

🐧 Waddle, Waddle, Little Penguin! 💦

Learning comes to life through movement! As our children waddle like penguins through the obstacle course, they are developing balance, coordination, gross-motor skills, body awareness, and spatial awareness while practicing how to navigate and problem-solve through each challenge.

The experience also supports language development in our full Mandarin immersion classroom, where children connect words, songs, movement, and actions naturally throughout their day. 🎶 By hearing and using Mandarin in meaningful, playful experiences, children build vocabulary and comprehension in an authentic way.

🐧 小企鹅，摇摇摆摆！💦

学习在运动和游戏中自然发生！孩子们像小企鹅一样摇摇摆摆地通过障碍赛道，在有趣的挑战中发展平衡能力、协调能力、大肌肉动作、身体意识和空间感知能力，同时学习如何观察、思考、解决问题并完成每一个挑战。

“Look! The water is going down!” 💧🔬

A simple moment of water play becomes a meaningful science lesson! As our teacher recreated a water-treatment process, children observed how water moves through different stages as it is cleaned.

Through hands-on exploration and conversation, children are developing an understanding of cause and effect, observation, sequencing, and how water is cleaned and cared for in our communities.

When teachers follow a child’s curiosity, everyday activities can become an opportunity to explore the world around us. 🌎💦✨

There’s something special about learning together!

Our explorers worked side-by-side in the sand and water, creating channels, testing ideas, and figuring out how to make the water flow.

Through this hands-on experience, children are building collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and social-emotional skills as they share ideas, take turns, and work toward a common goal.

And with beautiful weather outside, we’re soaking up every opportunity to learn, create, and explore together! ☀️💧
