We are proud to announce that our Provost, Dr. Cihan Cobanoglu, has been named to the 2026 World’s Top 2% Scientists list, compiled by Stanford University researchers and published by Elsevier. 🎉

This is his second appearance on the list, following his inclusion in 2024. He is ranked 339 worldwide in his subfield, Sport, Leisure & Tourism, with research focused on hospitality and tourism technology, AI in education, and experiential learning.

We were proud to host the Global Conference on Technology and AI in Hospitality and Tourism (GLOTECH) from September 18 to 21 at San Diego State University, bringing together scholars, industry leaders, and students from around the world, in person and online.

Attendees took part in keynotes, research presentations, and panel discussions on how AI and emerging technologies are shaping the future of hospitality and tourism. Congratulations to all of our Best Paper Award recipients.

Virscend University strengthens ties in India 🤝

Our Provost, Dr. Cihan Cobanoglu, traveled to India to meet with leading universities and explore new partnership opportunities.

He visited IILM University, Amity University, and KIIT University, and Memorandums of Understanding were signed with each institution, opening the door to collaboration in research, student exchange, and academic programs.

Meet our Guest Lecturer: Dr. Shinyong (Shawn) Jung 🎓

We were honored to welcome Dr. Shinyong (Shawn) Jung, Associate Professor of Tourism, Event & Sport Management at Indiana University Indianapolis, as a guest lecturer for our MBA505 Marketing Management course.

With a career spanning international hospitality (Shepard, COEX Intercontinental Hotel) and academia at Purdue, Metro State Denver, and IU Indianapolis, Dr. Jung brought real world insight into Consumer & Business Markets and Integrated Marketing Communications.

Big milestone for the Virscend University SBIR Center!

We've published 24 articles in 2026 alone, building on 12 from 2025. That's 36 total articles and counting.

Our Center for Sustainable Business Innovation and Research continues to turn scholarly work into practical insight, connecting our students, faculty, and industry partners with real-world impact.
