Congratulations to Los Nietos Middle School for being recognized at the California Distinguished School Awards ceremony held tonight at the Disneyland Hotel! This honor reflects the hard work, dedication, and excellence of the entire school community.

We’re also proud to share that Student Board Member Samantha Hernandez had the opportunity to meet and speak with California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond. Thank you to Superintendent Thurmond for taking the time to connect with our team and for capturing the moment with a photo!

Our team included Los Nietos Board President Maritza Nieves, Board Clerk Evelyn Avdalyan, Student Board Trustees Samantha Hernandez and William Vargas, Superintendent Dr. Ramiro Rubalcaba, Principal Shannon Brann Zelaya, LNMS Secretary Claudia Fonseca, and LNMS teachers Erika Rose and Gabriel Jauregui.

Twenty incredible girls with a strong interest in STEM were selected by their Math and Science teachers for a one-of-a-kind field trip to the Columbia Memorial Space Center!

From designing and customizing their own rockets (and watching them launch! 🚀), to coding rovers for different planet simulations, these future innovators were fully immersed in hands-on learning. They also explored the museum by wiring circuits and controlling mechanical arms—bringing science and engineering to life!

To top it all off, they enjoyed a delicious lunch from Panera Bread. 🥪

This unforgettable experience was made possible thanks to the generous support of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Greater Whittier Area and the Columbia Memorial Space Center.

The future is bright—and it’s powered by STEM! 💡👩‍🚀

Today, we had the incredible opportunity to send a team of students and staff—alongside a group from Pioneer High School—to San Francisco to visit the Cisco Meraki headquarters! 🌉💻

Participants engaged in hands-on cybersecurity and technology experiences, gaining real-world insight into the ever-evolving tech industry. A huge thank you to Cisco Meraki for inspiring the next generation of innovators! 🚀
