S.E.L.F. High School

With a heavy heart, I share the passing of my dear friend, Edward Michael “Mike” Jones (1957–2026).

Mike was a gentle, funny soul with an easy smile and laugh. A red-headed Hawaiian surfer, skateboarder, and dirt racer, he carried the spirit of adventure and the ocean wherever he went. He was part of the first class of SELF (1974–75), drove a red Bronco, and was a true local at Newport, Churches, and Trestles. Taking off on a wave, you could hear him yell, "Go for it, Juanita."

A true entrepreneur, Mike worked at Southern California Edison for over 25 years while always thinking ahead—especially about ways to advance electric vehicle technology. He was ahead of his time.

We shared so many good times—memories I will always hold close. He had a way of making people laugh and he will be deeply missed.
