We are excited to invite you to an upcoming event hosted by the Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) student chapter at UCI. we'll be gathering for our Spring Social, where we'll be celebrating the season with games, a potluck-style picnic with snacks and beverages, music, and plenty of socializing with fellow WiCyS peers! The WiCyS 2024 Conference in Nashville celebrated a decade of the organization's commitment to diversity and inclusion in cybersecurity. Several members of the WiCyS at UCI student chapter, including Olivia Figueira (President), Renascence Tarafder Prapty (Vice President), Yu Duan (Program Coordinator), and Zhoyi (student chapter member), seized the opportunity to attend through scholarships, each bringing back unique experiences and insights. From Olivia's appreciation for hearing WiCyS founder Dr. Ambareen Siraj's journey to Prapty's proactive engagement in networking, and Yu's deep inspiration from keynote speakers, to Zhuoyi's exhilarating first-time experience, the conference showcased the richness and diversity of the WiCyS community. Across these varied perspectives, a common theme emerged: the conference served as a catalyst for empowerment and collaboration among women in cybersecurity. Attendees left with a renewed sense of purpose, carrying with them not just knowledge and connections, but also a commitment to advancing diversity, inclusivity, and collective action in the field. The WiCyS at UCI student chapter extends their gratitude to WiCyS for providing them with such a valuable opportunity and looks forward to future conferences with anticipation and enthusiasm.

Ismat Jarin, Secretary of the WiCyS student chapter at UCI, was invited to attend the CRA-WP 2024 Grad Cohort for Women (https://lnkd.in/gWX-Rs5S) in Minnesota. Representing both herself and her affiliations with the WiCyS student chapter at UCI (https://lnkd.in/gETMwHDT) and ProperData center (https://lnkd.in/gE3iAj7m), Ismat seized the opportunity to showcase her research and graduate school experiences. One of the highlights of Ismat’s experience was the opportunity to network with leading women from academia and industry. Furthermore, Ismat found immense value in connecting with peers in computing, including PhD and Masters students across the country. Ismat’s journey at the conference was not only an honor but also a testament to the strides being made in fostering diversity and inclusion in the field of computing.

WiCyS at UCI is thrilled to recap the highlights of our recent Research Seminar featuring Joann Chen, a PhD candidate in the EECS Department at UCI. Joann's presentation, serving as a practice run for her forthcoming job talks, delved into the theory and application of differential privacy. She explored cutting-edge technologies in this domain, including privacy-enhancing techniques and their implications in machine learning. Attendees had the invaluable opportunity to witness firsthand the academic job market process and offer feedback to Joann. We extend our gratitude to Joann for her engaging presentation and to all who attended!
