ECHS Y-Club students were visited by Republican candidate for the KY State Representative of the 91st District, Darrell Billings today. Mr. Billings shared with members lessons on adversity, and listened to the members’ concerns on issues facing the 91st District. We are very excited that Mr. Billings will be participating in our Forum on October 27th!

Estill County High School officials are pleased to announce a Candidate Forum to be held at the high school gymnasium on Tuesday, October 27th, beginning at 5:00PM. The event is presented by the ECHS Y-Club, which is in partnership with the KY YMCA. The organization is the largest student-led government setting in the nation. The organization allows KY students to participate in mock-government settings in two annual events: the Kentucky Youth Assembly (KYA) in November and the Kentucky United Nations Assembly (KUNA) in March.

In addition, the Estill Counter Chamber of Commerce and CG Bank are working with the ECHS Y-Club in presenting the event.

The forum on October 27th will be moderated by club member, Lincoln Wilburn, who is a candidate for Presiding Officer at KYA this November. Questions to the candidates will be asked by other club members. The club had success in their first debate for local and state Primary Elections this past May.

The forum will include candidates about the local, state, and federal level. Estill County Judge-Executive Elect, Kelby Browning will be delivering remarks. The Estill County Sheriff Forum between incumbent Democrat Chris Flynn and Republican challenger Brian Brooks will be held. The KY State Representative for District 91 Forum will be held between Republican Darrell Billings and Democrat David Johnson. KY State Senator for District 31 Brandon Smith will be delivering remarks. The final two events will be focused on KY races at the federal level. The US KY House of Representatives for District 6 Forum will be held between Republican Ralph Alvarado and Democrat Zach Dembo. Finally, for the US KY Senate race, Republican Andy Barr will deliver recorded remarks, while Democrat Charles Booker will deliver remarks in person to close out the night.

Tickets for the event will go on sale in two weeks. The cost of admission will be $10, and all proceeds will go to help the ECHS Y-Club fund the costs for their two annual events. Concessions will be sold throughout the night.

Congratulations to Lincoln Wilburn on being selected into the Senator Brandon Smith Ambassador Program!

Lincoln is the President of his Junior Class, a member of the ECHS FBLA with an emphasis on Public Speaking, and a member of the ECHS Football Team. As a member of the ECHS Y-Club, Lincoln will be running for Presiding Officer at the Kentucky Youth Assembly (KYA) this November in Louisville. We are also excited to announce that Lincoln will again be the Moderator for our next Candidate Forum on October 27th!

The Robert E., (Bobby), Thomas Memorial Scholarship Fund, has been created by the
President and Board of Directors of the Kentucky Sheriff’s Association, in an effort to recognize a former Sheriff and President of the Kentucky Sheriff’s Association. It is the goal of the Kentucky Sheriff’s Association to award a scholarship in the name of Robert E. (Bobby) Thomas, former Sheriff of Hardin County, to celebrate his achievements in the field of law enforcement, and to honor his memory.

🚜 You’re Invited: Estill County Landfill Community Open House! 🚜
Join us for a free, family-friendly event where you can get a behind-the-scenes look at our operations, learn about landfill gas collection, excavation, and recycling, and ask any questions you have!
Event Highlights:
* 🚌 Bus tours of the landfill running throughout the event
* 🚛 Touch-a-Truck area for kids
* 🍔 Free food available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

ECHS was so fortunate to have ECHS alumni, Carissa Turpin, speak to our students today about her newest book, A Mess of Monsters. She shared with them the writing process and selecting and working with an illustrator.
