We’re still buzzing from the CRLP Statewide Results for Reading Comprehension Expert Convening! 📚✨

Our UCI CRLP team had the opportunity to learn, collaborate, and deepen our understanding of how to facilitate this powerful signature program—together. We were especially proud to bring along four incredible teacher leaders who bring both deep expertise and strong facilitation skills to this work.

A special shout-out to Jennifer Jensen, who co-presented at the convening—an amazing example of teacher leadership in action! 👏

We’re excited to bring this learning back to our region and continue building capacity alongside the educators we serve.

What happens when dual language educators come together to study data, research, and practice? Powerful ideas for strengthening biliteracy instruction begin to take shape.

On February 4, our Dual Language Educator Focus Group gathered for the second session of collaborative inquiry. Educators analyzed student data, examined research on effective dual immersion instruction, and explored assessment practices with Elizabeth Peña, professor at the University of California, Irvine.

Together, this community of educators is helping design a new CRLP professional learning institute to strengthen bilingual and biliterate learning across our region.

We are grateful for the leadership, expertise, and collaboration these educators bring to the work.

A very special thank you to Dr. Elizabeth Peña, professor at the UCI School of Education, for sharing her expertise as a co-facilitator of this important work session!

Understanding screening data is only the first step—connecting it to instruction is where the real impact happens.

On February 17, educators joined CRLP for Connecting the Dyslexia Screener to Instructional Practice, a professional learning workshop focused on California’s new Reading Difficulties Risk Screener (RDRS).

Participants explored the research-aligned definition of dyslexia, examined what California-approved screeners measure, and discussed how to translate screening results into meaningful instructional next steps using the curriculum and resources already in place.

We were especially glad to have faculty and staff from the University of California, Irvine School of Education learning alongside educators throughout the day. Thank you to everyone who contributed to such thoughtful professional learning and collaboration.

California Dyslexia Screener 01/08/2026

With California’s new mandated Reading Difficulties Risk Screener (RDRS) rolling out statewide, educators need clarity on what the tool measures and how to use the data effectively. This session provides a clear, research-aligned understanding of dyslexia and the role early screening plays in identifying key indicators of risk. Participants will gain practical strategies for making sense of screening information and connecting those insights to instructional practice using the curriculum and resources they already have.
