Join us in congratulating Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Graduate, Amillia Howard. Amillia passed the NCLEX-RN exam on her first attempt, and is now a licensed RN.

Amillia has accepted a position at Cabell Huntington Hospital. She plans to continue her education at Ohio University, where she will pursue her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She is incredibly grateful for the endless love, encouragement, and support of her family and friends throughout this journey.

McKayla has accepted a position as a Registered Nurse on the Progressive Care Unit at Southern Ohio Medical Center. This accomplishment reflects her perseverance, determination, and resilience through some of life’s most challenging moments, all driven by her commitment to her family and the future she envisions for them and herself. She plans to continue building her acute care expertise as she works toward her long-term goal of advancing into the ICU or Cardiac Care setting.

Why are our nursing students doing jumping jacks in class? 🫁

Today, our BSN juniors exercised while breathing through straws to get a small taste of what patients with COPD face every day, when even showering or getting dressed can leave them breathless. Feeling it firsthand builds the empathy that will shape how they care for these patients.

Welcome back to OUS Nursing, Professor Bayless! We’re so happy you’ve joined the nursing department as a full-time faculty member. 💚🐾

Laura Bayless has seen the nursing lab at Ohio University Southern from both sides.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing here in 2018. Now she's an assistant professor of instruction in nursing, teaching the lab courses where students learn clinical skills and build the confidence to use them.

She brings more than eight years as a registered nurse, with experience in medical-surgical nursing, surgery, intensive care, and clinical documentation improvement. She's also working toward her Master of Science in Nursing as a family nurse practitioner through Ohio University.

"I hope my students leave my classes knowing that compassion, professionalism, and patient advocacy are just as important as clinical knowledge," she said.

Outside of work, Laura spends time with her family, reads, and watches scary movies. Fall is her favorite season and Halloween is her favorite holiday, so she picked a good semester to start.
