The Jefferson County School of Visual Art Located on the Shades Valley Technical Academies campus, our program is part of the Shades Valley/JC

The Visual Arts and Communications Academy represents a shared vision and combined effort by Career Technical and Art Education departments to create a unique visual arts magnet school in Jefferson County. The Visual Arts and Communications Academy is dedicated to nurturing secondary students interested in pursuing a career in the visual arts through an integrated, relevant curriculum tailored to

their individual needs. Enrollment is not limited to Jefferson county residents, but out of district students must pay tuition. Admission into the Visual Arts and Communications Academy is competitive. Prospective students must submit a portfolio, an application for admission with transcripts, statement of intent, and two letters of recommendation.

As many of you may or may not know, Mr. Olsen Ross, the Director of the Jefferson County School of Visual Art, passed away a few weeks ago from cancer. He was my colleague at JCSVA for the past 20 years. He was a kind and empathetic spirit. An encouraging yet challenging teacher of art. He was my friend. Please share your own memories about Mr. Ross.

Prospective and current students: the deadline for scholarships is quickly approaching!

The Department of Art and Art History at the University of Alabama at Birmingham has several scholarships available. For a complete list go to: http://www.uab.edu/cas/art/resources/student/scholarships.

Applications due: Feb. 6, 2019 by midnight

STUDIO STUDENTS //
To apply for undergraduate art studio scholarships submit a single portfolio via the UAB Slideroom site with supporting information and materials via B-Smart. Studio students must submit materials to two sites - Slideroom and B-Smart. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

ART HISTORY STUDENTS//
To apply for undergraduate and graduate art history scholarships submit information and supporting materials via B-Smart.

All scholarship applications, along with the specific support material requested for each, are due by midnight, February 6, 2019. Late applications will not be reviewed.

BA-Art Studio, BA-Art History, BFA, and MA-Art History students are eligible for departmental scholarships.
No letters of recommendation are required.
