Three of my classroom's ceiling tiles were completed this past week. This is the first thing my students see in my room and a lot of pride goes into each one.

I reserve this project for students in Art III or Modern Design. I have six seniors painting full tiles this year. All these snow days made the end of term deadline difficult, but the work the students are producing is worth the wait. ❤️ These seniors have been in my classroom since 6th grade.

Congratulations to West Iron County Junior Kylee Devore on winning March "Artist of the Month" with her acrylic painting. Kylee is currently enrolled in Art II.

Thank you to the Chippewa Club and local artist (and ASA alumni) Laura Bailey for sharing her artistic talents with us. Laura led the students in a book making activity.

Congratulations to February's Student Artist of the Month- Chloe Clements. Chloe is a Junior and is enrolled in Art 3. Chloe's chosen project is a 18x24" scratch board of an octopus. The texture is so amazing on this piece. Chloe painstakingly took the time to create the texture using safety pins and thumbtacks.

Many thanks to visiting artist Stephen Wysocki who painted quick oil portraits of each student and the Chippewa Club for hosting ASA.

Congratulations to December's Student Artist of the Month- Brianna Yackel. Brianna is a sophomore at West Iron and is enrolled in Art II. Brianna's selected work is a drawing of a cat using white charcoal. Today we enjoyed a meal at the Chippewa Club and then attended a demonstration on the potters wheel at the Dickinson County Library by local potter Kenyon Hansen. Kenyon was SAotM when he was a student and showed the students work he is currently producing using clay he found around the Keweenaw.

Check out our Art Club tree at the Iron County Museum. We repurposed computer CDs to make our ornaments this year. I fell in love with the disco balls and bright garland to pull it all together.

Our theme is: Art Club: Making spirits bright and a little bit funky. ❤️🎨

ASA artwork will be on display at the Dickinson County Library until November 15th! The work on display is inspired by Finnish artist Helene Schjerfbeck's artwork. Students did a great job capturing emotion by communicating with shapes, value and color, rather than detail. The work is more stylized than realistic, allowing the viewer to participate in the narrative.

Our local show gives a nod to an exhibition of Schjerfbeck's work soon to start on December 5th at the MET in NYC.
