Grayson Butterfield just received a very unexpected Card and gifts from the staff at Bishop Baraga Catholic School. Due to Covid-19 he was unable to celebrate his birthday at school or with friends. So his school just personally delivered him a belated birthday surprise. Needless to say, he was very shocked and excited. Thank you all for thinking of him and making his day ❤

As an introduction to S.T.E.M. using the Engineering Design Process, Mrs. Sage had the 5th and 6th grade students work to construct a tower that was at least 6 inches tall with a platform to hold a "surprise" load for at least 10 seconds. The challenge included limited materials to promote planning and communication. Great job, 5th and 6th graders!

Below is a picture taken from the roof of some of the third graders along with Mrs. Freeman and Father Michael. The third and fourth grade classes are working on a fun STEM activity with Mrs. Freeman - an egg drop. They have designed different ways to package an egg so that when it is dropped off the roof the egg will not break. Both classes had one egg drop this week. Those who had a broken egg will redesign for one more drop.

For Teacher Appreciation Week, our creative middle school students decided to honor their teachers by giving them what they apparently love best: a pop quiz. The students came up with questions to quiz their teachers to see how well they know their students. We're happy to report that Mrs. Michaud received the highest score, Mrs. DeLong hung in there, and Mrs. Sage filed a complaint as it wasn't an open-book pop quiz in the manner she regularly gives quizzes. This sure made for a fun afternoon activity! Great job, middle schoolers!

We took time out on Wednesday afternoon to have our May Crowning Celebration. We honor Mary in the month of May. She is our mother, our intercessor, and our model. Mary, Mother of God, be our mother too.

For the end of March is Reading Month, our students dressed as storybook characters. Our kindergarten loves the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar, so they dressed as caterpillars. Mrs. Steinbrecher also got into the spirit of the day. She dressed as the coconut tree in Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. What a fun day!

The Mitten by the First Grade Class

The Mitten, by Jan Brett, is a favorite story of our 1st grade class. They put this play on each year. This year parents could not come and see the production in the classroom, so we recorded it instead. The first graders did a great job! Enjoy!

The 8th grade class just finished reading The Call of the Wild by Jack London. For a culminating project they created game boards in groups. Each group had to assign jobs, create questions and challenges, as well as create the game board, rules, and pieces. The questions focused on characters, setting, and types of conflict. Below you can see the games the students created.

BBCS Christmas 2020

Merry Christmas from Bishop Baraga Catholic School!

12/18/2020

Today, after Mass, all of our students and staff were happy to spend some extra time praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet for the healing of Geno Schinderle, who is currently in Green Bay battling leukemia. Please keep him and his family in your prayers.

12/15/2020

The third graders recently participated in a service project for Christmas. The students raised money to buy baby chicks for poor families overseas. During math class the students added up all the money they raised: $112.00. This allowed them to purchase 8 dozen chicks. A dozen baby chicks can grow up to produce 2,000 eggs, so the students figured out that 8 dozen chicks could produce more than 16,000 eggs. Families can use these eggs for meals or to be sold for income. Great job, third graders!

Every year, students at Bishop Baraga Catholic School participate in an Advent Prayer Exchange. This year each student was given the name of a resident at one of our local nursing homes or assisted living facilities along with two ornaments. The students decorated the first ornament for their resident. The ornament will be sent to the resident along with a letter. The second ornament will remain in the classroom where it will be placed on the class Christmas tree. Each day, throughout the Advent and Christmas Seasons, the students say a special prayer for their resident. Enjoy these photos of the kindergarten and first grade showing their ornaments.

The 4th-8th graders took time to do a service project before Thanksgiving. They made wreaths using hangers and plastic sandwich bags which will be delivered to our area nursing homes. Thank you to all the parents who donated money and items to make this possible!
