Northwoods Adventures Guiding
Putting "Catching" Back in Fishing
04/15/2022
Returned early from Pool 4 on the Mississippi River. Worst weather conditions in 20 years...Hail, Snow, high winds daily and flooding. Water temp was 39 when we left yesterday morning with about 6" of water clarity. Larry Theil and I caught only a couple legal walleye each in 3 days of fishing...Sorry for the duplicate photos 🤔

Sooner or later it seems like our body parts are wearing out. My left hip is at that point, and will be completely replaced on June 28. On this Father’s Day I am thankful for all the support I have had at Northwoods Adventures guiding. Most of my clients have become good friends. My reason for guiding was to teach people to be better Fisherman and perhaps, along the way, fishers of men. I am still determined to put on my sixth annual veterans day of remembrance fishing trip and dinner in late August/early September. God Speed 🙏🏻

I thought I would post this because it’s very true. Before I go fishing I bet I would spend 2 to 3 hours in my shop downstairs just getting ready. Putting fresh line on reels sharpening hooks, etc. etc. not to mention lots of study of upcoming weather and observation of what the fish are doing.
Old adage... You make your own luck.

My Dobyns DC 684 cb came through for me today. After an hour and a half of tossing jerk baits shallow with no results. I snapped on my old school Wiggle Wart medium diver. It was lights out after that. I managed to catch nine on the Wart in 12-14 fow. Later, In my first attempt working a Ned rig on my DRX 722 with 6 pound copolymer fine, I caught 6 more smaller males. Water is still only 46. We are still a week away from full pre spawn up North. All bass were released to spawn and give someone else a thrill :)

Very cold start of the day in the pier in the fox river. Water temperature is only 37° at 7 o’clock. Pete and I worked hard but we finally found a pattern and we got into our first females of the year. We caught and released 16 Walleye and 4 whitefish. Tom’s Hair jig’s and compact BFishNTackle jigs n paddle tails were also effective...
