Day 4! The Environmental Justice Hawkeye Service Breaks Group has been busy!
This week they have worked with:
- Backyard Abundance at their edible classroom
- SeacrestOctagonBarn
-AmeriCorps in Cedar Falls AND
today they will be working Habitat for Humanity

Day 3 of Hawkeye Service Breaks :)
The Basic Needs section is in Des Moines, working with the YMCA Supportive Housing Campus all week! They are sorting donations, serving meals, and spending time with residents. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with such an amazing partner!

Day 2! Our healthcare team partnered with NAMI and went over to the R Place Peer Center where people with mental illness in Johnson County Iowa come for recreation, rest, recovery & relationships. This group provided crucial sustainable service to support a center like this while highlighting the importance that mental healthcare is still healthcare!

For the first day of service, our Youth Mentorship team headed out to Swisher, IA and got a little muddy while making some new furry friends! Our team provided service for this wonderful organization called Miracles in Motion where they use equine-assisted services to provide support and opportunities for children and adults with physical and mental disabilities. After 2 years we are finally able to partake in our immersive spring break program again! Our groups have been working hard this semester to prepare for an extensive week packed with many service projects and team bonding. Stay engaged to see how students become active citizens and give back to local Iowa communities!

Hawkeye Service Breaks is partnering with the Ronald McDonald House and hosting a donation drive in Iowa City to support the families that stay there! Bins will be located in various locations throughout the city of Iowa City from March 7th-11th. Accepted items include toiletries, clothing, and toys. Please note that all donations must be new and in original packaging. All donations are greatly appreciated!

Luz is a fourth year student, studying HR Management. Luz's favorite form of potato is french fries (a classic). Luz is going to be leading the Economic Inequity trip to Detroit this year.
