The University of Iowa Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering
The mission of this department is to serve Iowa, the nation and the world by graduating talented and well-rounded chemical and biochemical engineers possessing the tools and capabilities to become technology and business leaders, and through excellence in research and scholarship that advances sustainable technologies.
PERSONALIZED EDUCATION
The department facilitates personalized and flexible learning through professional development exercises for all undergraduate and graduate students. With an average senior class of 45 students each year, students are not a number and can interact one-on-one with distinguished faculty members and experienced instructors. Undergraduate students are offered 10-reconfigured focus areas that can be tailored through elective courses and minors. Graduate study is even more personalized - based on a close relationship with a faculty research mentor and guided by student-driven individual courses and development plan. Graduate students can draw from a committee of faculty members that review their work at key milestones, as well as a peer-mentor and extensive support and professional development resources of the University of Iowa Graduate College.
