A certificate program that introduces students to leadership concepts and offers them hands-on experiences that employers look for.
We are a proud part of the Pomerantz Career Center. Our program is comprised of two academic courses that focus on developing the leadership skills you already have and discovering the ones you’ll need to be successful after graduation. Each course (LS 2002 & LS 3002) of the program is filled with seminars, activities, and events designed to give you an edge as a leader in whatever career field you choose.

Meet Gabi & Madi - the Leadership Studies Interns for this year!✨
❓ What’s something the Leadership Studies program offers that more students should know about?
Gabi: “I took a course called Nonprofit Organizational Effectiveness II as an elective that I really enjoyed. I was able to work directly with a nonprofit organization in Iowa City and provide them with recommendations on how to expand the membership in their organization. I was only in my second year when I completed the course and being able to have such an impactful hands-on opportunity that was directly within our community greatly propelled my leadership abilities.”
Madi: “The Leadership Studies Program provides insider access to the Pomerantz Career Center and its amazing resources. Students get first-hand directions on how to use My Career Path, make appointments with career advisors, and can even get a free coffee when they visit!”

✨Service Project Partner✨
Tracey's CLA Part 2 class is partnering with Johnson Country Public Health. Their projects are:
✨Mental Health: Creating resources in conjunction with JCPH to help students understand what resources there are in the community to help them be more successful!
✨Homelessness: Creating posters to hang in the community sharing JCPH resources, sharing information about shelter houses, Salvation Army, food pantry, etc.
✨Emergency Preparedness-Tornados: Creating informational posters, flyers, and electronic resources for students in the residence halls on tornado safety!
✨Johnson County Medical Reserve Volunteer Network: This group is working with JCPH to get the word out and recruit volunteers to their Volunteer Network, helping folks understand how to make a difference in our local community!
✨Cybersecurity: Working with JCPH to share resources on AI and cybersecurity for Iowa City and surrounding counties – researching alongside them ways to protect the community!
