Learn about DeafDiabetesCan.org, the first-ever diabetes education website created in American Sign Language. Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) people are 3.2 times more likely to report living with diabetes compared to hearing individuals. Unfortunately, American Sign Language interpreters are not always provided in clinical visits, making it more challenging for DHH individuals to access the health information they need to manage their diabetes. DeafDiabetesCan.org includes an ASL Glossary of diabetes terms, diabetes education videos, and tip videos provided by a DHH community advisory board. https://www.nnlm.gov/training/class/r4-connections-deafdiabetescanorg-first-diabetes-education-website-american-sign

The Michigan Health Sciences Libraries Association (MHSLA) is pleased to offer two Member scholarships for the annual conference. Applicants must be MHSLA members.

The Member-at-Large Scholarship is for any MHSLA member who needs financial support in order to attend the annual conference.

The Diane LeBar Memorial Scholarship is for any MHSLA member employed in a hospital library or equivalent (eg: the member currently holds a librarian role in a hospital, but position title may be information specialist or other).
This scholarship is generously funded by the LeBar Family in memory of Diane LeBar, a longstanding, active member of the Michigan Health Sciences Libraries Association.

Scholarship includes full conference registration (including CE courses), lodging (2 nights), and meals. The recipient of this scholarship will be expected to write a brief summary of their conference experience for the MHSLA Musings or equivalent organizational newsletter. Scholarship winners will be determined by lottery.

The deadline for applications is September 14, 2026. Applications received after this deadline will not be considered. All applicants will be notified within 2 weeks of the application deadline. Members can submit applications for both scholarships.
