This week's Monday Motivation comes from the esteemed book "Once a Runner" by John L. Parker Jr. -

"You don't become a runner by winning a morning workout. The only true way is to marshal the ferocity of your ambition over the course of many day, weeks, months, and (if you could finally come to accept it) years. The Trial of Miles; Miles of Trials."

Let this be the reminder to stay focused and stay hungry 💯

CK's (Coach Kallin's) Wednesday Tip: didn't perform as well as you'd hoped? Give yourself some time to feel all of those emotions after your performance - once that time is up, then get back to work.
This was my third time participating in the New York 50k Road Championships and my first time back after winning 1st place in 2020. I wasn't able to reclaim my title of Champion, but progress is rarely so linear. This tip has proven effective - especially during the racing season - in keeping myself accountable to the rest of my season. If I don't do the mental work and move forward from an unfortunate race, the rest of the season will take a hit. Every milestone performance will teach you a lesson if you're willing to learn from it.

Some motivation from the late Steve Prefontaine to help you finish out your last few runs of the week on a strong note: "Over the years, I've given myself a thousand reasons to keep running, but it always comes back to where it started. It comes down to self-satisfaction and a sense of achievement."
Let the journey from where you started to where you are now continue to motivate you!

Today's 8 miles on the might be the last at less than 100% weight for a while! My ankle has made great strides (pun intended😉) in the last two weeks, and I've been running at full weight every other day for the past several days. I'm looking forward to a happy and healthy 2021!

"One cannot always tell what it is that keeps us shut in, confines us, seems to bury us, but still one feels certain barriers, certain gates, certain walls. Is all this imagination, fantasy? I do not think so. And then one asks: My God! Is it for long, is it forever, is it for eternity? Do you know what frees one from this captivity? It is very deep serious affection. Being friends, being brothers, love, that is what opens the prison by supreme power, by some magic force."

-Vincent van Gogh, letter to his brother, July 1880
