Iowa Reading Research Center
Student Reading Success Through Research and Collaboration Results will have a direct application to literacy policy and education in Iowa.
The purpose of the Iowa Reading Research Center is to improve the literacy proficiency of PK-12 students. To that end, the Center will conduct research in practical settings in order to evaluate the effectiveness of literacy practices and the usefulness of assessments for guiding literacy instruction. All efforts of the Center will be conducted in collaboration with educators, parents, community representatives, and policy makers.

We are educators, researchers, and leaders; we come from rural and urban districts across the Midwest; we work with students of different ages, language backgrounds, and abilities. Sometimes we disagree on the best approaches for teaching reading and writing, but we all share a commitment to improving student literacy. This week, we’re coming together at the 2026 Iowa Science of Reading Summit to ask questions, share our knowledge, and learn from each other.
