The University of Iowa Hapkido club is a student club and rec services lesson program open to University of Iowa students and community members.

Hapkido is one of the best martial arts for practical self-defense. We focus on ways to escape from, throw, ground-fight, choke, kick, punch, joint-lock or otherwise finish an attacker. Our techniques use the principal of non-resistance, turning an attacker's own strength against himself, and is thus ideal for women and smaller persons. Beginner classes offered through the Department of Recreational Services are Tuesday/Thursday 7-8 pm in Room S481 of the Field House (just below the Fitness Loft). Introductory classes will be held August 27th and 29th. These will include a demonstration of Hapkido techniques. The beginner classes really do start at the beginning. No previous experience is required. New students are welcome to begin anytime in the first two weeks. A t-shirt and sweat pants is appropriate attire.
