AI is moving from an idea to action for 10 Iowa businesses.

The latest Iowa JPEC AI Services Challenge awarded a combined $277,500 in AI services to 10 Iowa businesses working to explore how AI can help address real-world challenges and improve their organizations.

That brings the total value of AWS AI services awarded through the initiative’s three events to an impressive $860,500.

From health care and education to accounting, accessibility, retail and more, participating businesses are exploring practical ways to put AI to work.

The AI Services Challenge will return in Fall 2026.

“It’s not the size of the dog in the fight; it’s the size of the fight in the dog.”

That might be the perfect description of University of Iowa student entrepreneur Connor Vicory.

Connor’s startup, Vicory Solutions, has developed Control, software designed to help hospitals standardize room cleaning, track completed tasks, locate equipment, and reduce the risk of infection caused by improperly cleaned rooms.

What started as a senior design project became a business opportunity when University of Iowa Health Care asked Connor to continue developing the solution.

After confirming that he owned the intellectual property, Connor moved quickly—forming an LLC, securing insurance, building Version 1.0 of Control and developing a smart hospital room marker.

This summer, Connor joined the Iowa JPEC Summer Fellowship Accelerator. On July 23, he won first place and $3,000 at Demo Day.

Now he’s using the prize money to help fund the next stage of development, including enhanced software security, a mobile app, a finished prototype and a provisional patent.

Congratulations to the top three finishers at the University of Iowa John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center Summer Fellowship Accelerator Demo Day!

🥇 Vicory Solutions (Connor Vicory) – A hospital cleaning management platform that standardizes, verifies, and tracks environmental cleaning across healthcare facilities.

🥈 Stridelane (Carson Lane and Nicholas Gorsich) – LED pacing lights that help runners achieve personal bests during practices and track meets.

🥉 Event ConnecTD (Keaton Herzberg) – An online marketplace that streamlines event staffing by connecting organizations with skilled professionals.

Congratulations to all eight student ventures that spent the summer building and refining their businesses. We're excited to see what's next for these outstanding founders!
