I have very fond memories of listening to St. Paul Sunday Morning every week during my undergraduate studies at St. Olaf College and beyond. I sincerely believe that I learned more from his shows than anything I read in music history or music theory textbooks. He will be missed.

Another great pianist, but probably more well known as one of the greatest piano teachers of our time has left us 😢. I have read some of his books which were very insightful and helped me become a better teacher.

I was just informed by my older daughter, Erika Birnbaum that April 30 is "International Jazz Day". I have to confess that I was totally unaware that there was such a day. I wish I would have known about this earlier and that the gathering was in Chicago this year--I probably would have made an effort to attend 🙃.

In November 2011, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) officially designated April 30 as International Jazz Day in order to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe. On January 23, 2026, Marvin Blickenstaff passed away peacefully at his home in Pennsylvania.

As a man of profound faith, he was prepared for the end of his life, having lived his life in service to others.

We at The Frances Clark Center are deeply saddened by his passing and feel immense gratitude for his contributions.

Something Anthony has in common with the elite Choir of King's College, Cambridge is being able to sing for the choral music-loving Estonians. Back in 1990 Anthony was part of Kantorei at the University of Iowa which toured the then USSR. He remembers fondly how deep the Estonians love for singing goes.
