Sawyer’s Village
There are moments in child care that remind us just how much this work reaches beyond the classroom.
Our teachers are not only caring for children during the hours they are with us. They are learning who they are, celebrating their growth, walking beside them through hard days, and often becoming part of a family’s village in ways that are difficult to put into words.
A few weeks ago, one of our families said goodbye as they prepared to move. Sawyer’s mom shared the message below after his final day at Little Learners, and with her permission, we are sharing her words exactly as she wrote them.
Because sometimes the best way to explain the heart behind Little Learners is to hear it from a family who has felt it.
From mom ~
There are some people who come into your child’s life for only a short season but leave a lifelong impact. 🤍
Today was Sawyer’s last day at Little Learners and I don’t think I was prepared for how emotional it would be. Even though he’s only been there since February, I truly can’t put into words how grateful I am for every single teacher who has loved him so well. From the very beginning, they met Sawyer exactly where he was. They learned his quirks, always had his favorite monster trucks and construction toys ready when drop offs were hard and somehow always knew exactly what he needed. They showed up with endless patience, kindness, and understanding through the tough behavior days. They celebrated every little victory and became his biggest advocates and loudest cheerleaders. They walked alongside us through one of the biggest moments of our lives, his autism diagnosis. Never once did they make us feel like he was too much. Instead they embraced him for exactly who he is, supported him every step of the way and helped him grow into such an incredible little boy. They always put their kids first and it shows in everything they do. Today they absolutely broke me in the best way. They made us the sweetest memory book filled with photos of Sawyer and each of his friends colored pictures of his favorite things, monster trucks and construction equipment. It is something we will cherish forever. As a mom there is nothing more comforting than knowing your child is loved, understood, and cared for when you cannot be with them. That is exactly what Little Learners has been for us. Leaving a place that has loved your child this deeply is so bittersweet. I am so sad to be saying goodbye but I know he is leaving with so much confidence because of the incredible people who poured into him every single day.
To every teacher at Little Learners, thank you. Thank you for seeing Sawyer, believing in him, advocating for him, celebrating him, and loving him exactly as he is. Thank you for helping us navigate the hard days, for making the good days even sweeter and for reminding us that it truly takes a village. The impact you have had on our family is something we will never forget. You will always hold such a special place in our hearts. 🤍
