Sawyer’s Village

There are moments in child care that remind us just how much this work reaches beyond the classroom.

Our teachers are not only caring for children during the hours they are with us. They are learning who they are, celebrating their growth, walking beside them through hard days, and often becoming part of a family’s village in ways that are difficult to put into words.

A few weeks ago, one of our families said goodbye as they prepared to move. Sawyer’s mom shared the message below after his final day at Little Learners, and with her permission, we are sharing her words exactly as she wrote them.

Because sometimes the best way to explain the heart behind Little Learners is to hear it from a family who has felt it.

From mom ~
There are some people who come into your child’s life for only a short season but leave a lifelong impact. 🤍

Today was Sawyer’s last day at Little Learners and I don’t think I was prepared for how emotional it would be. Even though he’s only been there since February, I truly can’t put into words how grateful I am for every single teacher who has loved him so well. From the very beginning, they met Sawyer exactly where he was. They learned his quirks, always had his favorite monster trucks and construction toys ready when drop offs were hard and somehow always knew exactly what he needed. They showed up with endless patience, kindness, and understanding through the tough behavior days. They celebrated every little victory and became his biggest advocates and loudest cheerleaders. They walked alongside us through one of the biggest moments of our lives, his autism diagnosis. Never once did they make us feel like he was too much. Instead they embraced him for exactly who he is, supported him every step of the way and helped him grow into such an incredible little boy. They always put their kids first and it shows in everything they do. Today they absolutely broke me in the best way. They made us the sweetest memory book filled with photos of Sawyer and each of his friends colored pictures of his favorite things, monster trucks and construction equipment. It is something we will cherish forever. As a mom there is nothing more comforting than knowing your child is loved, understood, and cared for when you cannot be with them. That is exactly what Little Learners has been for us. Leaving a place that has loved your child this deeply is so bittersweet. I am so sad to be saying goodbye but I know he is leaving with so much confidence because of the incredible people who poured into him every single day.

To every teacher at Little Learners, thank you. Thank you for seeing Sawyer, believing in him, advocating for him, celebrating him, and loving him exactly as he is. Thank you for helping us navigate the hard days, for making the good days even sweeter and for reminding us that it truly takes a village. The impact you have had on our family is something we will never forget. You will always hold such a special place in our hearts. 🤍

🎶 More Than A Song 🎶

Today while I was cleaning up after breakfast, I stopped for a moment and watched Mr. Gabe lead circle time.

All of the children were sitting in front of him, listening and waiting. Then, almost all at once, little hands went up to their eyes like binoculars and they began to sing:

“Where is Georgie? Where is Georgie?
Please stand up. Please stand up.
Give a little wave now. Give a little wave now.
Please sit down. Please sit down.”

One Little Learner’s name was added, then another, and another, until every child had a turn.

They absolutely lit up.

Some were a little bashful when their name was called. Others stood up proudly, soaking in every second of the attention. Their friends smiled, waved and sang just as enthusiastically for the next child as they had for the one before.

Standing there watching, something about that simple little song struck me.

Every child was being seen.

Every child was being called by name.

Every child had a moment when the whole group was looking for them and happy to find them.

Every child felt included.

When you think about how little some of our children are, being away from Mom and Dad for the day can feel like a very big thing. Our teachers fill such an important role in our Little Learners’ lives during those hours away from home.

Sometimes that looks like comforting tears, giving a hug or helping with a hard moment.

And sometimes it looks like sitting on the floor, making binoculars with your hands and singing a silly little song.

But it is never just a song.

It is helping a child feel special.

It is helping them feel known.

It is helping them understand that they are part of something here.

And maybe, in one small way, it makes being away from home feel just a little bit easier.

That is the heart behind Little Learners. 💙

Nothing to see here… just our Little Learners getting all those wiggles out before circle time!

A little movement, a lot of giggles, and then we’re ready to settle in and learn.

👣 Unsteady Steps 👣

Today I watched a little learner take a few unsteady steps.

Tiny feet.

Shaky legs.

A little uncertainty with every wobble.

Crouched down a few feet away was her teacher.

She wasn't rushing forward or calling her over. She simply waited with a warm smile, arms open, exactly where her little learner needed her to be.

One hesitant step became another.
Then another.

And before long, those shaky little legs carried her straight into the arms she trusted.

The room erupted with cheers, but what stayed with me wasn't the celebration.

It was the trust.

The confidence to keep trying because she knew someone safe was waiting for her.

It wasn't just a child learning to walk.

It was a child discovering that it's okay to wobble.

Because when someone you trust is waiting with open arms, even the shakiest steps become a little easier.

Those are the moments that remind me that learning isn't just about ABCs and 123s.

Sometimes it's simply about knowing someone believes in you before you believe in yourself.

🎡 The fair may have come and gone, but the smiles are still worth sharing!

We recently hosted our First Annual Little Learners Fair, and what an incredible day it was!

Our little learners enjoyed a day filled with laughter, adventure, and hands on fun, including: 🎯 Ring Toss 🏀 Basketball 🎯 Bean Bag Toss 🍭 Cotton Candy 🎨 Face Painting …and so much more!

A very special thank you to our amazing Little Learners staff for the time, creativity, and love they poured into making this day so memorable. Your dedication is what turns simple moments into lifelong childhood memories.

Most of all, thank you to our wonderful Little Learners families for trusting us with your children each day. Watching their smiles, hearing their laughter, and seeing their excitement reminded us exactly why we do what we do.

Now for the best part... enjoy a few of our favorite moments from this special day!

Where learning takes flight and little minds grow.
