Welch High School, helps Ionia Public Schools accomplish its mission to educate all students by offering a variety of daytime classes and services for students in grades 10-12. The goal of Welch is to help students attain graduation and employability and to prevent students from dropping out. If you are a high school age student who would like to earn your high school diploma in order to give your

self an opportunity to compete for jobs that require a high school diploma, allow you to apply for admission to a community college, or make you eligible to join the military services, the staff at Douglas R. Welch High School in Ionia can help you achieve that goal. The requirements for a high school diploma at Douglas R. Welch High School, formerly Alternative Ed, have changed. These requirements do meet state requirements for a high school diploma. Welch High School permits you to receive your high school diploma by earning just 18 credits (15 Michigan Merit Curriculum courses and 3 elective courses). The credits you have already earned may count toward the 18 credits you must earn to graduate. This is a fantastic opportunity to finish high school! If you are 15-19 years of age, you are eligible to enroll at Welch. If you don't turn 20 until after September 1st, you can attend Douglas R. Welch High School in Ionia for the full year. Welch welcomes 5th year seniors. Want to complete your dream of earning a high school diploma right here in Ionia? Many of you are so close! Welch can offer flexible scheduling to fit your needs.
