August is right around the corner and we are diligently getting everything ready for the start of a new school year. If you have not completed the Returning Registration for your student, please do ASAP so we have accurate information. Your student will not be put in a class until returning registration is completed. If your student will not be returning, please contact the school to let us know. The district is upgrading all the phones, so we are currently unable to receive phone calls (hopefully that will be completed soon), so in the meantime you can reach us by emailing Mrs. Black at [email protected].

A change for this year is that we are no longer holding specific Registration Days. In the past, there have been 2-3 days designated on the calendar for registration, but given that everything is completed online it is no longer necessary. If you have any new neighbors with elementary age students, please encourage them to complete the online registration. Once we receive it, Mrs. Black or Mrs. Lowry will contact them to schedule a time to bring in the required registration documents to the school. Back to School Night this year is on Aug. 21st from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. We're hoping to have class assignments ready to go by the week of Aug. 11th, so the sooner we get all the registrations in, the sooner we can release class lists.

I’m so grateful we were able to give the students an opportunity to play on Phase 1 of the new playground equipment, before school was out. Our District Playground Specialist, Mike, has been working so hard and I think he had the biggest smile of anyone as we watched the students play.

Phase 2 of the the playground will take place this summer. It involves removing the old swings, making way for new swings and another climbing toy. The big playground equipment will remain. If your student is planning on playing at the school this summer, please remind them to be vigilant and careful around the construction.

School Status is down, so Mrs. Pymm asked me to post the following message for the 2nd Grade classes that have a scheduled Field Trip to Ashton tomorrow:

I have talked to the Transportation Department and things still look good to make the trip tomorrow. I will check again in the morning to confirm.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your teacher. Hopefully School Status will be working again tomorrow.

We are so excited for Back to School Night this week! It will be Thursday, Aug. 22nd from 5:00 - 7:00. Teachers will be doing an overview of the year on the 1/2 hour (5:00, 5:30, 6:00, 6:30) so if you would please plan your arrival around those times, it would e greatly appreciated. Bring your supplies and come meet your teacher!

Also, we are currently hiring for Playground Duty Aides for the school year. If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Black at 525-4440.

We hope everyone is enjoying summer! As we get closer to the start of the school year, it would be very helpful if we could get all returning student registrations completed ASAP. This will help us see more accurate enrollment numbers which would make sure we have the correct staffing for the year. Mrs. Black sent out emails this morning for students who we have not received their registration form. If you have moved or are not planning on attending Iona, please call the school.

New Student Registration is next week, Aug. 7th but we would encourage people to do the online registration now so that all you have to do on the 7th is bring in birth certificates and proof of residency. Tears were shed. This group of students started their journey at Iona the same year I (Mr. Curtis) took over as principal. It has been my privilege to watch these students grow from kids to outstanding young men and women. I had to get a picture with them before they move on to middle school. They are going to do great things!

Thank you to everyone that participated in Parent/Teacher Conferences this week. Next week is our Red Ribbon Week, concluding with our Halloween Celebration on Friday, Oct. 27th. I've attached the flier that has the dress up days for the week, as well as some daily challenges for students to do at home to help improve their mental and physical health. Just a reminder there is no school tomorrow, Oct. 19th, so we'll see everyone back on Monday!
