Exciting day of prospective horn student auditions today! It's not too late to start thinking about the Academy for next year. Horn seniors this year were accepted to Juilliard, Curtis, Colburn, Eastman, Cincinnati, NEC, Boston University, Oberlin, San Francisco Conservatory, USC, ASU...among others!

Keith Buncke, IAA class of '11, is the new principal bassoon of the Atlanta Symphony. Keith performed a fantastic Bitsch Concertino during Interlochen's concerto competition in 2010. Keith first got his start at Interlochen during the one-week Interlochen Bassoon Institute in 2008, which then inspired him to attend the Interlochen Arts Academy for his Junior and Senior year. The rest is history!

Keith gave a nice shout out to his Interlochen mentors, Octavio Más-Arocas and Eric Stomberg, during an interview:

"Working with Dr. Eric Stomberg was undoubtedly the most important aspect of my time at Interlochen in terms of preparing me for this position," Keith says. "He helped me develop so much in just two years, both musically and technically. I learned a lot about orchestral playing from experience in the Interlochen orchestra and receiving guidance from Octavio Mas-Arocas and Dr. Stomberg."

9 Masterclasses, 5 group warm-ups, 5 horn ensemble rehearsals, one solo competition, one orchestral mock audition, and one memorable faculty recital later, and the 2013 Interlochen Horn Institute officially comes to a close! What an amazing week of artistry and teaching! Thank you to our legendary faculty, Froydis Ree Wekre and Peter Kurau, for joining Gustavo Camacho this week inspiring the 27 young and talented students who attended the Institute.
