It's time for State Stride! Join the WVSU community as we welcome our newest Yellow Jackets to campus with a celebration of tradition, connection and State Pride. The event begins at 12:30 p.m. in the P. Ahmed Williams Auditorium in Ferrell Hall and concludes at the Student Plaza outside the Wilson University Union with food, music, campus groups and activities.

Want to get paid to do research at WVSU?

Applications are open for the Research Rookies program! Students work with a faculty mentor on hands-on research for approximately 10 hours per week, scheduled around their classes, and receive a $2,000 stipend each semester ($4,000 per year).

And don't let the word research intimidate you...you do NOT need any previous research experience! We really do mean ROOKIES. One of the primary goals of the program is to give students the opportunity to get started in research while receiving guidance from a faculty mentor.

Research Rookies can also gain:
🔬 Hands-on research experience
🎓 Graduate school and career preparation
🤝 Opportunities to network with professors and professionals
✈️ Possible travel opportunities
🧪 Opportunities to collaborate on multi-lab and multi-institution research projects
📊 Experience presenting research at the annual WVSU Research Symposium

The program is currently geared primarily toward freshmen and sophomores in STEM majors who are enrolled full-time at WVSU, maintain at least a 3.0 GPA, and are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Don't meet all of those requirements? I still encourage you to apply! We are hoping to expand Research Rookies to include more students and additional disciplines in the future. Demonstrating interest from students who fall outside our current eligibility requirements can help us make the case for expanding the program.
