Today, on what would have been Katherine Johnson’s birthday, the WVSU community gathered at her statue to honor her extraordinary legacy.

A pioneering mathematician, NASA trailblazer and WVSU alumna, Katherine Johnson helped change the course of space exploration and continues to inspire generations of students to pursue bold goals.

We also proudly congratulate this year’s Katherine Johnson Scholarship recipients: Natalyia Sayles, Alisha Suhirtharatnasingam, Sierra Scott, Aubrey Turner and Lyra West.

Congratulations to these outstanding Yellow Jackets as they carry forward a legacy of curiosity, excellence and possibility. 💛🖤

West Virginia State University was proud to partner with the University of Charleston and Arts Amplified for the 3rd Annual Downtown Takeover.

The event brought WVSU and UC students together in downtown Charleston for an evening of community-building, entertainment, activities and fellowship. Highlights included engaging student participation and step performances by Greek organizations from both institutions.

Thank you to our partners, participating businesses and everyone who helped create a memorable experience for students in the heart of Charleston.

It's time for State Stride! Join the WVSU community as we welcome our newest Yellow Jackets to campus with a celebration of tradition, connection and State Pride. The event begins at 12:30 p.m. in the P. Ahmed Williams Auditorium in Ferrell Hall and concludes at the Student Plaza outside the Wilson University Union with food, music, campus groups and activities.

U.S. Senator Jim Justice and the always adorable Babydog Justice visited West Virginia State University today, spending time with Yellow Jackets and celebrating the power of arts, culture and HBCU education.

During his visit, Senator Justice highlighted the proposed HBCU Arts Act, bipartisan legislation that would strengthen arts education, cultural programs and career pathways for students at HBCUs. We also appreciate his recent co-sponsorship of the IGNITE HBCU Excellence Act, legislation that recognizes the historic underfunding of HBCUs and would authorize federal investments to rebuild and modernize aging campus infrastructure.

We're always grateful for his unwavering support of West Virginia State University! 🐾💛🖤
