Wanda McDowell for Spartan One School Board

Wanda McDowell for Spartan One School Board Wanda Moore McDowell, an Inman native and Chapman High graduate, is running for Spartanburg County District One School Board. Mr.

Wanda is a fitting example of the success that district one can direct for each child. Wanda attended district one schools her entire life. As a 1987 graduate, she was on the state championship basketball team and went on to earn an athletic scholarship to Converse College, where she continued her basketball career. Wanda was also the Student Body President, President of the Interact Club, Band Dr

um Major, and Miss Panorama. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, she worked in the admissions office at Converse College for a decade, five of which she held the titles of Assistant Director then Director of Admissions. During that time, she was able to see firsthand how schools prepared their students for college entrance and was often a champion for students in district one who wanted to attend Converse. Wanda then went to work for Kyrus Corporation and was the sole salesperson for all major city schools in the United States. She serviced schools with a population over 40,000. She was routinely in the schools to see firsthand how things were managed in those areas. During a National Convention, she was introduced to Super Bakery, founded by the late Franco Harris, and has been employed with the company since 2003. Harris’ vison for providing healthy food options in schools aligned with Wanda’s enthusiasm and knowledge of being in the school system. One of her greatest privileges was working for Mr. Harris, football legend and the most amazing boss! Wanda is now in charge of brokers in twelve states. She still routinely visits schools with her brokers and feels a level of accomplishment to be able to provide healthy food options for children in schools all over the country. Wanda also continues to lobby yearly on Capitol Hill for Universal Free School Meals! In addition to her many years of experience working in the education system, she also has experience in volunteer roles, also associated with school aged children. Wanda has served as the organizer for the Hallelujah Night/Trunk-a-Treat collaborative among five community churches, and she and her husband Thomas were Youth Advisors for their Church. She currently sits on the board of Healthy Smiles of Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties and most recently sat on the Spartanburg County District One audit committee. This is not an inclusive list of everything Wanda has done and will continue to do. Her decades of work in the schools around the United States, combined with her loyalty and desire for success for Spartanburg School District One make her the perfect candidate for Spartanburg County District One School Board.
