PWA Updates 7 15 26

1. ANNUAL PWA CONSTITUENCY MEETING - Was held on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at 1pm in the Arthur Strawbridge Gymnasium of the school. Over 60 people from at least eight of the fourteen Motor City Area Churches attended along with LRC officials. Detailed oral reports were heard accompanied by visual data on the screen from the President and School Board Chair, Dr. Abraham Henry, LRC Education Superintendent, Deidre Garnett, School Building Manager, Dr. Tim Gardner and School Board Treasurer Ronn Holloway. A passionate plea about the importance and mission of Adventist Education was given by Dr. Abraham Henry. Several helpful suggestions and observations were given during the question-and-answer period. A full-color PWA newsletter with school events and news was distributed and healthy fresh fruit and veggie refreshments including watermelon were served afterwards.

2. SUMMER PROGRAM AT PWA - The PWA building is humming with activity this summer as children from the community and the student body gather for instruction and fun at the summer program. This effort is made possible by the Out of School Time (OST) grant of $283, 000 which originated in 2024 and, at that time, was divided amongst three recipients. The approval of PWA's subsequent funding application has allowed the program to continue. Children are enjoying classes in drama, fabric arts, tutoring and STEAM which stands for science, technology, engineering, art, and math. You can invite your friends with children to enroll their children in this free summer program by calling Principal Jefferson at the school (313) 565-5808.

3. 2026-27 SCHOOL ENROLLMENT - Spread the word! Enrollment is open for the 2026-27 School year! For more information, call the school at 313-565-5808 or send an email to [email protected] or [email protected]. You can enroll now by going to the PWA website - petersonwarren.net.

4. VANDELISM UPDATE - On Saturday evening, May 16, 2026 an act of vandalism and break-in occurred on Peterson-Warren Academy school grounds. There was significant damage done to the facility. Thanks to the security cameras, the perpetrators were identified and apprehended. The six laptops and nine iPads stolen were recovered with only one damaged. We praise God for His protection that no injury or loss of life was experienced during this unfortunate event.

5. LILLY FOUNDATION GRANT - Principal Jefferson is thrilled to report that PWA is one of the LRC schools who received funding from the $1 Million dollar Lilly Foundation Grant awarded to the LRC. Together with 3 partner churches - City Temple, Sharon Inkster and Ypsilanti, PWA has formed a Cohort that has designed an initiative on Healthy Living to promote the school AND the partner churches in their respective communities. More information is captured in the June issue of the PWA newsletter - The Mustang Express. You can read more details about the initiative and other great things happening at PWA in the newsletter, which is now available on the PWA website - petersonwarren.net.

6. PWA FRIENDS AND SUPPORTERS - you can be added to the PWA friends and supporters email distribution list to receive regular updates on the great things happening at Peterson Warren Academy. Just text or call Debbie Young at 734-395-0439.
