Hello all,
If you would like to get in contact with current band instructors.

Please be advise this page isn’t 100% up to date at all. Communications with school has been nonexistent ever since Mr. Smith and Mr. Lackey left the band program maybe 2 or 4 years back.

Anyone know who the current band director might be?

To all Morningside band alumni, it is with a very heavy heart that I must announce that we've lost one of our own-and way too soon at that. For those of you who were around during my tenure, Brayan Jimenez Gonzalez was inescapable. He started as a beginning freshman, picking up alto saxophone, and immediately doing great things with it. He was a fierce intellect, a perpetual ball of energy, mischievous, and filled with nothing but kindness and enthusiasm for everyone in the band and everyone he met. He was also one of the best dressed students I ever had.

Brayan was the catalyst for me learning Spanish, and one of the best beginning musicians I've ever had the good fortune to work with. More than anything I was looking forward to hearing about him going far in life, because he had so much potential and so much ahead of him.

If anyone can reach out to his family and find out what happened, or where donations can be sent, please contact me on my personal account (Bryan Lackey) and I'll post the information here.

My sincere condolences to his family-his younger brother also played saxophone in our band, and his parents very active band boosters and obviously loved him very much.

Dear Band Parents & Students (and fans),

Greetings to all of you! It is with mixed emotions that I must inform you all that I have accepted a new position as the Director Of Instrumental Music at Herbert Hoover High School in Glendale, and as such will not be the band director at Morningside this year. I do not yet know who my replacement will be, however I have offered to be part of the selection process and to aid the transition however I can. I may even wind up starting the first week or two of the year at Morningside if necessary. I have also requested that student leadership be part of the selection process to determine my replacement if possible. As soon as I have more complete information I will be happy to share it with all of you.

Although not without its challenges, it was a privilege to be your band director these past five years. I saw a program rise from nothing, despite considerable external pressures and almost no resources, and I saw many students do amazing things. I'm proud to have gotten the opportunity to watch all of you learn, grow, and make music together. And thank you as well to all of the wonderful parents who contributed so much time and support through everything.

As I depart it is my fondest wish for you that all of you keep going as musicians. Don't stop playing because I'm leaving-the music should be bigger than that. All of you have such great talent and potential, and I hope with all my heart that that talent and potential continues to grow and develop regardless of whoever might fill the director's chair.

I would love the opportunity to stay in contact with all of you, if you are so willing, and I will always be available for any help you might need. I will be turning over the band social media to the new director as soon as I know who that is, however my phone number is unchanged and I'm easily findable on facebook.

I will miss all of you, and I thank you so much for being part of our program. May your lives be wonderful, and may music always be a part of them.

Sincerely,

Bryan J. Lackey
Director Of Instrumental Music

Exhausted band director post concert selfie. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! to all the parents and staff that helped, and especially to all of the band members for their hard work. Probably record attendance, definitely record fundraising, and one of the best concerts I've ever done at Morningside. I'm so proud of all of you, and I can't wait to hear the musicians you become.
