Swipe right to travel from the 1970’s to 2026. Today marks the first full week of classes here on campus. But we’re still buzzing over the first day of school, our first liturgy, welcome week, and the club fair. The Belles are working hard in the classroom, making new friends, practicing football plays, exploring their creativity, and so so so much more! This is going to be an exceptional year at St. Mary’s Academy.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Sr. Margaret Jude. As a community, we know that she touched the lives of so many Belles. We were honored to have her on campus last fall, as we celebrated the Golden Graduates from the Red Tie Class of 1975.

We will hold Sr. Margaret Jude, her family and friends, the CSJ community, and the SMA community in our prayers.

Welcome Home, Dr. Boro! 🎓✨

We are beyond thrilled to announce that Dr. Jessica T. Boro ‘98 is officially returning to her roots as St. Mary’s Academy’s new Head of School!

From walking SMA’s historic halls as a Gold Tie Alumna to serving on our Board of Directors, Dr. Boro brings 24+ years of passionate educational leadership back to where her journey first began.

Dr. Boro is a proven leader, advocate, and educator:

🌟 Founder, Executive Director, & former LAUSD Local Hero in Education

🎓 Spelman College, LMU, & Pepperdine University Alumna

🏆 Recipient of the NAACP Meritorious Woman of the Year Award & LA Lakers Principal of the Month

📜 National Board Certified Teacher

“Nearly thirty years ago, I walked these halls as a student, and for the past two years I’ve had the privilege of serving this community as a board member. To now step into the role of Head of School is not just an honor, it’s a homecoming. I know this school’s legacy, its traditions, and its promise, and I’m ready to lead from day one with the urgency and care this moment calls for. Every child here deserves the same excellence, belonging, and opportunity that I was given, and that’s the standard I intend to carry forward.” — Dr. Boro

Please join us in giving a warm SMA welcome back to Dr. Boro! 💛

From learning new skills to finding your people. 🎯💛

From the moment a Belle steps into her first club meeting, she’s discovering something new about herself.

From:
✅ Learning to crochet for the first time
✅ Joining the Robotics Team with zero engineering experience
✅ Finding her voice in Debate Club
✅ Connecting with her culture in BSU, AAPI Club, or La Casa Latina
✅ Discovering a love of photography in Click Clique
✅ Making her first real friends in Book Club

SMA’s co-curricular clubs and organizations create the moment and the space to make an impact.

Our school schedule is thoughtfully designed so that each Belle is involved in at least two clubs- Blue (academic) or Gold (social). With 40 options, the diversity of co-curricular selections is as wide-ranging as our student body.

And here’s the beautiful part: every club is 100% student-inspired, student-driven, and student-managed.

Belles create the clubs. They run the meetings. They lead. And in the process, they discover talents they didn’t know they had, build friendships that will last a lifetime, and develop leadership skills that will carry them into their golden futures.

A golden moment at SMA is when a Belle finds her people.

Maybe it’s the girl who’s never picked up a crochet hook learning to make headbands for a fundraiser. Maybe it’s the Belle who joins Robotics with no experience and ends up competing across California. Maybe it’s the freshman who walks into a cultural club assembly and finally feels seen.

This is where Belles find themselves. And each other.

But we can’t do this without you.

Yarn. Robotics parts. Cultural heritage assembly materials. Debate resources. The initial costs that help clubs get started before they fundraise to sustain themselves.

Will you give to Co-Curricular Activities this week?

Golden Moments happen here. 💛✨

At SMA, co-curricular clubs aren’t just activities, they’re opportunities for leadership, service, and cultural appreciation.

Golden moments of repose: Crochet Club, Book Club- relaxing and creating together
Golden moments of movement: Ping Pong Club, Pace with Purpose- staying active and connected
Golden moments of community: BSU, AAPI Club, La Casa Latina- sharing cultural pride
Golden moments of creativity: Click Clique- sharing photography talents
Golden moments of competition: Robotics Team- bringing home titles
Golden moments of voice: Debate Club- teaching critical thinking and advocacy

This is where Belles breathe, socialize, discover, and lead.

With 40 clubs to choose from, there’s something for every Belle. And if there’s not? Belles can create their own club. They’re never more impressive than when they run a meeting—agenda in hand, leading their peers with confidence.

But these golden moments need your support.

Initial startup costs. Materials. Competition fees. Resources that help clubs get off the ground before they become self-sustaining through fundraisers.

The return on investment? Beyond titles and trophies.

Co-curricular activities create compassionate leaders, cultural pride, creative expression, and lifelong friendships.

We’re asking those of you who found your people in a club at SMA—especially those who haven’t given yet—to step up this week.

Give to Co-Curricular Activities. Create golden moments. Link in bio. 💙
