Liminal Somatics

Liminal Somatics Woven into our programs are the time-honored lessons of mastery and conflict resolution distilled from the peaceful art of Aikido.

Liminal Somatics develops and shares transformative practices that deepen relationships, nurture community, and empower individuals to lead meaningful change—personal, social, and global—through mutual care, embodied action, and nonviolence. At Liminal Somatics, our multi-disciplinary approach draws on cutting-edge somatic practices, verbal and non-verbal integrative models, emotional and somatic

intelligence, and experiential consensus-building. By aligning our actions and words with our intentions – and our mind with our senses – we can express a discriminating wisdom that keeps us balanced and centered on our various paths. By literally coming to our senses we become more self-directed and self-generative, and we increase our capacity for happiness and success. People from around the world come to our workshops because they want to reach their highest potential in their personal lives and in business. People come to us because they want to feel more energetic, more empowered, more centered and more connected so they can build stronger relationships with themselves and their communities. We offer classes, training, and coaching that will build the skills needed to keep your creativity and personal connections fresh and alive.

Marshall Rosenberg used to say, "Don't do anything that you do not experience as play."

When we train together, we laugh, we fumble, and we discover how safe it is to be silly. Bringing playfulness and curiosity to our patterns is exactly what keeps us motivated and on the path of growth for the long haul.

Doing this work is a commitment, but it is also a deep joy.

Community is the blueprint of life and the web of meaning we spin around each other. It is a daily, living posture of tuning our attention to the space between us to keep those invisible strings singing in beautiful harmony.

Do you ever feel alone?

We live in a culture that glorifies the solo achiever, but the truth is that we are never alone.

Remember we always have resources at our backs. We visualize a healthy ancestor, a beloved teacher, or a mentor placing a hand gently on our back to offer their support.

Since we are mostly space, we are porous. We can let their calm, courage, and strength flow directly into our bodies. When we remember who has our back, our shoulders drop, our breathing becomes rhythmic, and we realize we do not have to navigate life's challenges alone.

Who is standing at your back today?

In our busy lives, we often confuse force with power. We try to push our way through obstacles, argue our points, and control our circumstances. But force only creates counter-force and leaves us exhausted.

True power is different. It is the living energy of our universal needs flowing freely toward a purpose. When we align our actions with what we deeply care about, we step into a quiet, centered strength.

If you want to access your true power, stop trying to analyze everything with your head. Look to your heart. That is where meaning resides, and meaning is the fuel for authentic, lasting change.

Knowing what we deeply care about is what helps our energy flow powerfully toward our true purpose. It becomes our organizing principle, helping our words and actions line up with what we believe is important.

In this video, I discuss how staying rooted in this question is the first step to aligning with our integrity and values.

When we are in the middle of a conflict or a difficult conversation, our rational minds often scramble to find quick answers, analyze what is happening, or reach for defensive strategies to keep us feeling safe.

But true empathy operates on a completely different frequency. It is not an intellectual script or a technique; it is a visceral state of openness, resonance, and not knowing. To truly listen beneath the surface of someone's words, we have to slow down and find the courage to hold the space of uncertainty without rushing to fix, judge, or solve.

When we are willing to "empty our cup" and be in the vulnerability of the unknown, our nervous systems begin to settle. It is in this quiet, undefended space that a relational field is generated, allowing our deeper somatic wisdom to arise and true connection to take root.

We are always practicing something, whether we are conscious of it or not.

The way we react when we are startled, the way we hold tension, and the way we protect ourselves. It is all built biologically into our bodies through repetition over time.

Exclusively intellectual learning is useful, but when real-life pressure hits, we do not automatically rise to our highest ideals...we fall back to what we have practiced most.

Somatic practice is where the rubber meets the road and real change occurs. We train to build the physical "muscles" of integrity, curiosity, empathy, and compassion so they are available to us when we need them most.

The good news is this works both ways. If we become what we practice, then we can choose, deliberately and with care, what to practice.

Presence. Empathy. Curiosity. Groundedness. These aren't personality traits you either have or you don't. They are skills. And skills can be practiced. 🌿
