Now that quality, accredited Montessori training for teachers is an option in our area, my wheels are turning on how to open this option for Indianola schools within the public sector!!
There are so many reasons why a Montessori approach to preschool education (and beyond) is amazing! Kids generally thrive in Montessori environments when it’s done with proper understanding, training, and implementation. I always say if I was billionaire, I would open one up and make it available for every kid in my community!

I’ve been researching the possibilities for years, but truthfully this is not something that one person gets done alone, atleast on that scale. There are many layers, regulations, and roles involved in making something like that happen. I hope to see this happen in my lifetime, even if I’m not the one who does it! It’s THAT meaningful to me! Anyone who has participated in any way in a Montessori program will never look at school the same way again. And, there’s a good chance they’ll be finding themselves saying, “Why isn’t everyone doing this?!”

Cowles is a Public Montessori school in Des Moines through the Des Moines Community School District. Many families who would like that option are not able to due to there only being one school in the district for this (so far). I’ve heard great things about Cowles from many people I know who have taught there or had kids there.

Technically, I consider Irving Elementary School in Indianola somewhat of a charter school with their alternative year round calendar, so why not have a Montessori option in our community as well? A girl can dream…
