These 5th grade astronomers have been busy investigating the question: How do shadows change throughout the day? ☀️

They gathered data by tracking the length and direction of their shadows throughout the day, then used flashlights and golf tees to model the Sun’s apparent movement across the sky. Finally, they made their own sundials to explore how people used shadows to tell time long before clocks! 🕰️🔦

Water Rocks! visited Irving to get our 4th and 5th graders moving and learning with Habitat Hopscotch! 🐦🦋💧 Students became migratory birds as they traveled between wetland habitats and discovered why these important stopping places matter. Thanks, Water Rocks!, for another great hands-on science experience!

Great science starts with a question. 🤎🔍

This week, second graders asked, “What is a geologist?” That question marks the beginning of their Pebbles, Sand, and Silt Unit, where we’ll discover that even ordinary rocks have extraordinary stories to tell. 🌍🪨

💨 First grade science is officially up in the air! We launched our Air & Weather unit with one big question: What can air do? Blow it. Trap it. Push it. Test it. Investigation 1 was all about discovering that just because we can’t see air doesn’t mean we can’t observe its effects. 🌬️

Irving is back! 💜💛

We kicked off science with curiosity.

Students explored mirrors, fossils, owl pellets, a wind tunnel, and even blood under a microscope. The goal wasn’t to have all the answers. It was to notice, wonder, explore, and ask good questions.

Questions are where the magic begins. ✨🔍💡
