Looking for a one of my friends that may be at Ft Drum. I have a soldier that was sent to 2-87 after breaking his leg at Airborne school. He and his family are trying to set up furniture and baby cribs while he is on one leg. He and his family could use some help building some beds and cribs and stuff.

They are living on post and don't know anyone. Any help would be appreciated.

Clark completed another interview with Commander (Retired-US Navy) Richard Rollins and his wife Shirl Rollins on Thursday, January 11th, 2024 at their home.

Commander Rollins enlisted in the US Navy. Not long afterward, he was accepted into the US Naval Prep school. He was later admitted into the Naval Academy where he graduated and became a Navy helicopter pilot.

He served during the Vietnam War and completed three rescue missions at sea saving people who had fallen overboard.

In addition, he was a helicopter pilot during Operation Frequent Wind, the operation to evacuate refugees from Saigon in April 1975.

According to military specifications, Commander Rollins’ helicopter had a maximum capacity of 18 personnel. During the operation, he carried 45 personnel at a time, testing the limits of the helicopter and proving to the military and the engineers who designed this aircraft that this was obviously incorrect. 😀

But his greatest accomplishment during service was meeting a young lady at an officer’s club in Japan and making her his bride. He and Shirl will have been married 48 years in April of this year.

Commander Rollins served from June 1961 to August 1988 when he retired from active duty.

Commander Rollins and Mrs. Rollins, thank you for the opportunity to interview you and thank you for your service!

‘Twas the week before Christmas,
in our hangar so tight,
Not a creature was stirring,
not even a flight.

Our F-16s were nestled with care,
In hopes that Boss “Sheik” wouldn’t disrupt the air.
Our pilots were resting all snug in their beds,
While visions of airshows danced in their heads.

And our ground crew out of coveralls,
With no practices left,
We have just settled down
for some well-deserved rest...
