Meta is making a new push into workforce development with LevelUp, a free four-week training program created with CBRE to help prepare Americans with no prior experience for high-demand fiber technician jobs. According to Meta, the program is part of a multi-year initiative aimed at helping fill a major skills gap tied to construction, data centers, and the infrastructure powering AI.
Meta says fiber technicians play a major role in building and maintaining the company’s data centers, and that demand for this kind of work is growing as more large-scale data center projects move forward across the country. The company says successful graduates will learn technical skills through classroom discussions, hands-on labs, and team activities, and may also get the opportunity to work at Meta’s US construction sites through its contractor network.
The company also says the program is designed for a wide range of people, including recent high school graduates and mid-career workers looking for a new path. Meta currently says it operates or is building 27 data centers in the US, and that since 2010 those projects have supported more than 30,000 skilled trade jobs during construction along with more than 5,000 permanent operational roles such as site managers and engineers.
Meta framed the new initiative as part of its broader investment in American infrastructure and AI leadership. The first LevelUp training cohorts are expected to begin this summer, with CBRE operating the program.
