Geography Graduate Student Mike Davis joins a field workshop exploring the Asian Carp Berm at Eagle Marsh, southwest of Fort Wayne, during the IGIC Annual Conference. GENI collaborated with the Little Rivers Wetlands Project, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Department of Natural Resources, the United States Department of Agriculture, and the Allen County Historian in order to offer the workshop, which extended two additional hours due to the interest in the area, in the wetlands, and the berm.

Geography GIS Graduate Student & Geography Club President Matthew Young and Dr. Joseph Kerski, ESRI Education Manager, touring sinkholes in and around Mitchell and Orleans, Indiana … home to Matthew and his lovely parents. Dr. Kerski’s favorite topographic map is the Mitchell quad depicting the largest density of sinkholes in the country. THANKS to Mr. and Mrs. Young, we had local expertise explaining the impact of sinkholes. Matthew happens to be an avid caver and a member of the Central Indiana Grotto. The Geography Department, the School of Liberal Arts, the Indiana Geographic Information Officer, the Indiana Geographic Information Council, and GENI hosted Dr. Kerski during his visit to Indiana as a Keynote Speaker for the IGIC Annual Conference. During his week-long visit, he visited IUPUI, Ball State University, Taylor University, Fort Wayne, Mitchell, Orleans, Mooreland, geo-confluences in northeast and east central Indiana, and many more places highlighting how dynamic and exciting a spatial life well-lived can be.
The GEOGRAPHY CLUB IS GOING CAVING... see the following message from our Geography Club President:
Our upcoming trip to MARENGO CAVE is scheduled for NEXT SUNDAY, APRIL 29, 2018.
We will be leaving at 9AM. The chartered bus will be waiting for us outside the Campus Center. The Campus Center will be closed at that time, however, University Hall on 301 University Blvd opens at 8AM on Sunday.
Our destination is three hours south of Indianapolis. The tickets to the cave and bus were reserved with funds donated by the student council, for which we are most grateful!
The only thing we will need to pay is our food. We will stop to eat before arriving at the cave and probably on the way home for an early dinner or snack.
I would like everybody to arrive around between 8:30 and 8:45.
See you soon!!
