Ground breaking moment at the corner of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street and Oscar Robertson Blvd.
IPS broke ground today on a $44 million expansion of Crispus Attucks High School, marking a new chapter for one of the most historically significant schools in the nation.
The project, which will add four new specialty classrooms, an advanced health lab, and a regulation-size gymnasium to the Attucks campus, is anchored by a $25 million investment from IU Health and the Indy Health District in partnership with The Indianapolis Foundation, and additional funding through IPS bonds. It’s expected to be complete by Winter 2028.

Today, the IU Health High School Fellowship at Crispus Attucks High School welcomed 40 students as part of the newest cohort. Congratulations! 🩺🧑⚕️
As part of the fellowship, students gain hands-on healthcare experience and mentorship. Upon graduation and successful completion of the program, fellows may qualify for immediate employment with IU Health in roles such as Medical Assistant II or Patient Care Tech/Assistant. They’ll also have access to continued education and career support through the Mosaic Center for Work, Life + Learning, ensuring opportunities to pursue associate and bachelor’s degrees aligned with their goals.

Anchored by a $25 million investment from IU Health in partnership with The Indianapolis Foundation, IPS announced Crispus Attucks High School will undergo a $44 million expansion. This project is a cornerstone of the Indy Health District initiative, aimed at reducing health inequities and improving quality of life on the city’s near north side. The project will include a regulation-size gymnasium, new academic spaces, and a state-of-the-art health academy lab, ensuring that students have every tool necessary for careers in healthcare, but also investing in spaces that support learning, wellness, and long-term success.

Crispus Attucks High School was endorsed as an official Early College by the Center of Excellence in Leadership of Learning in April 2025. In its first full year of endorsement, Crispus Attucks is estimated to award nine Indiana College Core diplomas.
The Indiana College Core is a block of 30 credit hours of general education, college-level coursework that can be transferred between all Indiana public colleges and universities and some private ones. Additionally, Crispus Attucks will award eight associates degree from Ivy Tech this year!
